Found this in pocket change! Doubling on top left of the memorial columns. Matches CopperCoins 1999D-1DR-001. It could be an early die state (EDS) since it lacks the die markers, but CopperCoins also notes the possibility of it being a form of master die doubling. At present, though, it’s a DDR! Hope you all like my photo editing attempts! Haha
It's not the split plate there should be doubling/separation lines on the edge of the high point of the corbel top of the pillar.
What do you mean by this? I’m not sure I understand. That’s exactly what I see and pointed out with the arrows. Are you seeing something different / not seeing it?
It wasn't looking raised to me in your photos. It looked flat and shelflike. More like split plate doubling than a die feature. I looked it up on coppercoins and yours matches the variety.
Ohh I see. That makes sense. Yeah, I've always had a bit of confusion regarding the identification of flat and shelflike doubling as a MD marker. While it's true most of the time, a lot of modern true doubled dies have doubling in lower relief. Sweet! Glad to have someone else agree! I've been going through large amounts of saved pocket change and picking out some varieties and errors hence all of my recent postings, lol.
It is lower than the actual design relief. Typical for modern doubled dies, especially on modern Memorial columns.
