"Flat tops" ? And here I thought we was lookin' for 'carriers', like at Midway..... Carry on brothers and sisters. Oh, BTW, some handsome stuff posted here.
Whoops, I forgot to include this Severan provincial in my prior post. The obverse has some issues but the reverse is a fantastic rendering of Zeus Ammon EGYPT, Alexandria. Aquilia Severa year 5, CE 221/2 tetradrachm, 23.5 mm, 11.57 gm Obv: draped bust right Rev: head of Zeus Ammon right; L-E Ref: Emmett 3025.5, R3; Geissen 2376; Dattari 4186
Still happy with my Severa upgrade this year. But I would dump this in a hearbeat for that Tet. Aquilia Severa (220-221 & 221-222 A.D.) AR Denarius O: IVLIA AQUILIA SEVERA AVG, Draped bust right. R: CONCORDIA, Concordia standing facing, head left, holding double cornucopia and sacrificing with patera over altar to left; star to right. Rome Mint 19mm 3.02g RIC IV(part 2), pg 47, #226 (Elagabalus)
Besides the couple of Faustina I posted on another thread I only have a couple of others first Antonia with Caligula on a Macedon coin and the other one is Julia Domna with Caracalla on a Marcianopolis triumphal arch/city gate.
I've posted it here before, but it's appropriate in this thread, too. I really find this Lucilla sestertius artistically attractive despite the low technical grade it would receive:
Another one... Nice little budget addition: Roman Empire Orbiana, wife of Severus Alexander, Augusta, 225-227 CE Æ AS 23mm 8.75g Rome mint Obv: Diademed and draped bust right Rev: Concordia seated left, holding patera and double cornucopiae Ref: RIC 656
Such an amazing and attractive variety of posts!!! Sheesh, @Alegandron ....I can't wait to see what you do collect WHEN you are actually collecting something LOL For an anti-Imperial guy, you sure seem to have a ton of them
Yeah, it is a sideline for me....BUT things seem to happen. Counted...up to 136 Roman Rulers of which 27 are Empresses... Generally budget versions of their Portraits, but still fun to fill the slots. IF I DID focus on them, I would be stupidly spending ridiculous monies to get high-end examples... that would be decimating for me, because I know myself and how I FOCUS on a challenge.
