I’ve had this for a while and have wondered if it’s an error and any additional value as well? Any help would be appreciated.
Looks like the die was over polished and that removed the lower portion of those letters. Welcome to CT.
Good question. I'm just a collector. Hopefully some of the dealers on CT can give you a more informed answer. Normally, an overpolished die is no big deal, but sometimes they take off. The famous 1937-D three-legged buffalo nickel is just an overpolished die. I like it, and might even pay a small premium for it. Someone else might not. Still someone else might think it was super special. Any coin, or anything really, is just worth what the right person with money is willing to pay for it, and how it is marketed can make a big difference in that.
In some cases yes it will increase the value but in this case I’m sorry to say if any increase you couldn’t buy a hamburger at McDonald’s.
It is what it is. I’m new to all this and am not looking to sell anything anyway but obviously everyone hopes they come across some kind of value. In just a short amount of time I have quite a lot of stuff to go through cause especially in my line of work I frequent gas stations a lot so knowing all the stores I do I have quite a few that put aside any kind of strange or uncommon coins for me and being that you guys are so quick to respond and help I will probably have a lot more questions in the near future but I really do appreciate all the input from everyone
If it increased almost enough to buy a hamburger at McDonald's that would be doing pretty well these days!
It's the straws a lot non collectors are grasping at these days. The "parking lot mint" is especially popular.
Like I said. Me personally I’m not looking to sell anything but obviously if I happen to come across something with decent value it is a nice bonus for sure and a possibility as well but I don’t necessarily believe it’s a suckers game when there’s a lot of people out there doing much worse things trying to make money
