I was wondering if you guys could help me out with a grade for this nice looking coin. I’m thinking MS 61 maybe!
I'm not very familiar with grading older commemorative half dollars, but I think I see some wear. AU-55
I like 63!! Compared to the photo grade on pcgs seem to be between 61 and 63 but 55 No way!! Pretty strong strike with very minor chatter on the cheek. In hand has great luster with light toning. I thing being in the MS I should have it grade with a mintage of 28,142. What do you think.
Here i lowered the exposure a little so you can see the chatter a little bit better. It’s not easy to get good pictures with a cellphone.
Strong strike.....might be worth a try to get slabbed, but slabs are an expensive gamble. If you've the funds, give it a go, my friend.
I live in north Florida and have family in Orlando so i have a place to crash. I’m excited!! Been saving up some cash for the adventure.
I can't decide. It's a nice looking coin. ANACS would be a good choice for grading. The coin needs a nice holder. It's hard to judge luster from images.
Yeah, get it slabbed. I say 63 if not cleaned. Hard to tell from the photos. Get it under a loupe and look for hairlines. I've been burned on classic commems that for sure to me look like they would straight grade but end up details/cleaned.
Here's one that is graded MS-64. I think that your piece is what they call "a slider." It's not quite Mint State.
I agree with John Milton. Halperin's book, "how to grade US Coins," shows the high points of wear on every early US commemorative. On the Vt. commem, these are the shoulder and hip on the catamount, and Ira Allen's cheek. Those areas look gray and dull on this coin so I think it's upper AU.
