RPMs are tough… Thoughts?

Here’s another possible variety to look at! Maybe you can tell I’ve been looking through lots of change. This time a 1977-D cent. I’m really not that great with RPMs despite years and years of looking at coins up close!

I see some extension of the mintmark north. Perhaps a very slight split top serif. Can’t really tell if it’s a well-placed hit, a broken die punch, or a true RPM. What do we think!

I’m more skeptical of this one, but need a second opinion :)

@paddyman98 Hate to be the kind to tag, but maybe you wont mind! (If you do mind, I apologize!). Any thoughts on this one?

    Shhh... He's sleeping probably. wink.png
Definitely Not a RPM. Just check varietyvista.com.

Haha whoops! Forget other time zones exist ha!

I'd assume there are many RPMs that have yet to be discovered/listed on VarietyVista, though

Hmm. Could be. Get ready to pack your bags for Disney World!
Nah, the D looks beat up and either Die deterioration or machine doubling perhaps. We will wait for a 2nd opinion?

Really appreciate the info! Getting back into error and variety hunting so it's taking a bit to remember everything. I think you're correct. Let's see what the 2nd opinion is!

Meow thinks it could be a RPM. But the pics are not the best to say for sure. But Meow knows there are some RPMs that are just simple split serif corners on the mintmark. Meow finds those but does not keep them as they are a little too subtle and unexciting. Meow recently found a really good 1970 S/S that has a decent separation that was nice example. Meows best CRH score ever was a 1960 D/D in AU/BU condition a whole pawfuls of years ago.

It's a deteriorated die IMO. Notice the shelf like doubling and extra thickness on the numerals in the date.
Yes, there might be RPM's that aren't published. There are also RPM's that are just too minor to be published.
