    WOW!!

So many posts of coins on my 'wish list'....and that has become an imaginary and infinite compilation LOL....So I just try to purchase those that truly speak to me whenever I can.:)

But, my 'dream' coins are probably all those owned by @AncientJoe:woot:

My pre-denarius Roman Republican collection is lacking a bronze ramo secco bar:(

Something from my wish list that will soon be accomplished is a lifetime tetradrachm from Alexander III. The significance of this coin and Alexander is really what drew me to it as well as reading the book "The Hellenistic World: Using Coins as Sources" by Peter Thoneman.

Another from the wish list is an eyes to heaven Constantine, a Caracalla with city gate reverse, a coin with Homer, one of those big silver Bactrians with the elephant headress...and just about every other coin I see here;)

I have to admit I've been tempted to go after a litetime tet too, but I've held the urge under control so far by telling myself I already have other coins minted during his lifetime, even if they weren't necessarily minted under his authority. How long I'll be able to get away with that, I don't know. Eventually I'll probably just cave in and get a lifetime tet anyway.

Reading Thoneman made me really want one. And you know what, so what it they're popular! There's a good reason for that. I'm just pretty stoked that it should be coming together very soon.

You don't often see Roman coins without the bust. Are there any theories as to why this one was made that way?

The Rome mint under Vespasian revived many reverse types from the past, including the above coin. The obverse copies a Republican denarius of L. Mussidius Longus, while the reverse echoes one struck by Augustus soon after Actium.

So, sad story. :( I got a Shekel of Tyre that was supposed to be the most awesome coin in my collection. I soon realized that it probably wasn't the best financial decision I've ever made. Thankfully, my brother offered to buy it from me, so it stayed in the house. But, still, it's left a big hole.

RIP Shekel pf Tyre. (This isn't the one).

So it went from being on my list to being in my collection and, now, it's right back at the top of the list. Super lame.

I don't understand your coin-tale? ..... ummm, you bought a coin but you didn't have any cash, so your brother ended-up buying it from you?

I had the money at the time, no problem there. A few months later, I kind of hit a financial bump and needed some $$$, so I sold it to the bro. I wasn't expecting the bump when I bought the coin. It just flipping sucked so bad. It still had the new coin smell.:( Although, my brother got a mad deal on it.

    That's too bad, JDF ... man, that's a sad coin-tale (hopefully there's good coin-luck in your future?)

Thanks for the info! Every time I start to feel like I know stuff, new stuff comes out of the fog!

Ah, another chance to post my ultimate dream coin, a type I never expected to see for sale. Almost certainly I'll never see another, although this one may reappear at some point:

I'll save TIF the bother of having to look it up again, lol; it's Crawford 513/3, struck by Marcus Arrius Secundus.

As far as anyone knew (other than the owner of this piece, obviously, and anyone they let in on the secret) the only two extant examples of the type were in public collections, in Bologna and in the Capitoline Museum in Rome. (I have about a million pics of the latter specimen, taken through the glass. I've attached one here.) The type is missing in Paris, missing in London, missing in Berlin, missing in the ANS, missing in Haeberlin and RBW and every other private collection any of us knew about... except, obviously, one anonymous collection. This example wasn't "supposed" to exist.

There are a couple of RR denarii even more rare, known in just a single example. Here's the Capitoline Museum coin:

There are several coins known only by one specimen. Even more come from 2 or 3. What is it about this one that makes it worthy of dream status other than rarity? One answer would be an explanation of why the coin is so rare. Was it a special issue for a one day purpose? Was it withdrawn as offensive? Are all three from the same dies with no die wear difference between them? Was either type used with a different obverse or reverse? I'll agree that it is a good looking type and would be a popular item were there a hundred of them but it is not obviously 'special' in the same sense as the EID MAR coins for example. What is it about this one that makes it worthy of dream status?

Now the lion I have although it's Pisidian not in the best shape. Rare but not so rare, R1 I believe. I know all were found in 1 hoard. I've posted it before. I'm on the hunt for Lydian, not my dream theme though.

I feel your pain acg (and maybe caused it). Sorry to buy the one you were eyeing. Patience will work for you, I am sure. I found a small piece of one in a recent auction. I will post it when it arrives in 2 to 6 weeks.

My wish list is waaaaaaaay to long for my budget. I found a ramo secco cast bar piece and a coin with a plumb bob from this year's list.

I would like to find a piece of a cast bar with features like the chicken and trident bar NAC sold for six figures a few years ago.

Even a small piece of the bull bar with a part that is identifiable are rare and pricey.

Recently I was fortunate enough to acquire one of my wish-list coins at NAC's auction, which I'll be showing as soon as I receive it. AncientJoe already knows the coin to which I refer.

As for a dream-list coin, it would be this one:
