Shhhh.... They're all probably tuckered out and sleeping about now. Maybe we'll get some reports in the morning??
I'm here, although possibly not for much longer (getting hungry). Had a nice chat with @Evan Saltis waaay back in the corner. Not quite as many attendees as I'm used to seeing, but plenty of dealers, a lot less empty spaces than last year. Anybody else around (and wasting time looking at CT instead of, you know, shopping)?
I was there for a couple of hours late morning. I saw Evan and walked by his booth three times hoping to chat, but each time he was working with a customer so I chose to not interrupt.
I went Saturday morning for a couple hours. Had a great time buying at the show but was a little disappointed trying to sell a set of Peace dollars. I had done my research ahead of time and was asking grey sheet bid but no one was willing negotiate. I don't know if it's a market thing or what happened. Either way I switched focus and starting looking around. I found 3 coins that have been REALLY high on my list. Would have been really happy to come home with any one of them so it was a great day. The first is a 1914 Guerrero 2 Pesos from Mexico. I really like quality of this example and the original surfaces. The second coin is a 1829 Central America (Guatemala) 8 Reales in about AU50 condition with original surfaces as well. The last coin I never expected to find, let alone in my budget for this show. A 1824 Mo JM Mexico Hookneck 8 Reales. While I own quite a few Cap & Rays 8 reales, this is my first hookneck. I got home and drove the wife crazy with my excitement. I can't let myself put them away quite yet. How was everyone else's experience?
Nice group and nice finds - the thing with peace dollars right now is that they are so damned hard to sell… they sit around forever which is why you couldn’t even get Greysheet bid.
Sorry that I had been busy!! Hopefully the show went well for you in other ways. we would have periods where no one was around, then periods where everyone wanted to talk to me at once… haha It was nice to meet you - @-jeffB is a nice and polite man if anyone had any doubts.
Guess I'm outed, then. Happy to vouch for @Evan Saltis, too! Personable, and knows a Barber Quarter rarity when he sees it, too. (Not to mention Carson City gold that's forever out of my range...)
But remember what a number of people here will tell you -- there's no point bothering with details coins, because serious collectors won't have anything to do with them.
@Evan Saltis Just read this weeks issue of E-Sylum. One of my favorite reads. Saw that you had dinner with the local inteligencia. I hope to score an invite the next time I'm in the area. I have an interesting story involving Julian Leidman and the first time we met at the 1981 ANA WFoM. He is a true scholar!
I’ve been invited twice thus far. This month, we went out on my birthday. And yes, Mr. Liedman is truly a bright mind and great man. I don’t hold the power to invite, you’d have to talk to an established member for that. I’m still visiting with “guest” status
