Regardless of how you feel about it, those are the facts.

You advocated that a person should buy the Zombucks "Morgue Ann" proof (10,000 mintage) for $80 instead of the Carr over-strike "1964-D" Morgan at $80 (1,964 maximum mintage). Fine. You and/or anyone can go do that if you like them. They are well-sculpted and pretty neat, if you like that sort of thing.

I just searched on eBay for "Zombucks Proof" and the highest price attained by any Zombucks proof piece in the current eBay history was $119. This includes all past (retired) issues and designs in the Zombucks series. An uncertified but nice Morgue Ann, in the original mint packaging with all the papers recently sold on eBay for $35 with shipping included. Compare that to recent eBay sales of the Carr "1964-D" over-strike Peace Dollar. About $500 seems to be the normal now.

You and I both should thank our lucky stars that there are plenty of buyers out there. Even for bullion. :)

You just don't get the concept of art. Here's a prime example. I don't get the $4.4m sales price in open bidding for what amounts to a few hundred in materials plus another $1k or so for the mattress at Ikea but hey, that's not my job. Its art...

I was an art major at JMU. I never said it wasn't art.

Then why all the absurd hostility?

I don't think it's because he believes the coins aren't art. I think it's because he believes they're counterfeits in violation of the Hobby Protection Act and the Collectible Coin Protection Act, and, thus, damaging to the hobby.

    Would that be correct, @C-B-D?

I'm not hostile! Come on @Cascade, we don't have to agree on everything to be civil. Where are my hostile words? I just don't like DC's way of doing things. He should sign his work and I'll be satisfied. That's it, my friend. But he doesn't feel obligated to and that's fine. I just happen to disagree with that. Do we have to agree on everything to be pals??

It's even simpler than that. All I want is a tiny "DC" placed on the front or back of his fantasy date tokens. But he keeps saying things like, "the fantasy date IS my signature." And collectors that defend him say, "I won't buy it if he puts a 'DC' on the token!" And we argue in circles. It is what it is.

I'd buy them with a DC mint mark.

But, really, he does publish die diagnostics on his web site, and he's not replicating any coin of a date/mint combination that actually exists. If any schmuck with a Red Book can look up the coin and see it's not listed, that should be enough to be able to tell what it is, should it not?

Obviously we don't lol. (you're gonna lose the bet though :p)

And the hostility I'm picking up on is more in the form of overall inflection

This is kind of funny as the overstrike that arguably causes the most controversy is one that he did put his DC mark on

Youre right, I don't like it, but the difference between we supposedly "angry old men" and you, ahem, infinitely wise and brilliant young men is our issue is with the product itself and not the individuals who enjoy them.

I realize the concept is hard for you, as you've shown many, many times, but take an objective look at this thread and tell me who is angry? Which side, as usual, is so quick to resort to personal attacks and insults simply because others do not see things as they do? CBD hasn't remotely crossed the unreasonable line, yet the mud still flies, even from someone seemingly presenting himself as a friend. Does this really make sense to you?

And before you dismiss this as the ramblings of an old man, perhaps take a moment to remember that one day, you too will be in our shoes, and as happens with every generation, you'll get to deal with the younger people who just happen to magically know it all and lack the ability to see anything other than what they want to. Another funny thing happens as we age, and that is the otherworldly old idiots, the same ones we used to dismiss as hapless morons, magically become the exact opposite and only then do we realize it wasn't them who were the fools, but us. Enjoy the ride...
