Hope everyone is doing well on this beautiful day! Picked up a lot of error coins from an estate sale a few weeks ago and brought one with me on a road trip across Georgia. Well the passenger seat is a little bit boring so i figured i would share this one with you guys.Appears to have a straight and curved clip.is there any die markers to determine the date? If you guys would like to share yours please do Georgia is a long state so i have plenty of time to kill!!! Hope the pic’s came out good took them in the car. Thanks for looking!
Looks to be a double Incomplete Planchet. Planchets are never actually clipped. They appear as they were so that's why they are called "clipped" What happened was that the planchet was cut out of the stock sheet to close to a previously cut planchet hole. So it not complete hence incomplete planchet.
Please follow my logic here and remember I am not trying to be argumentative or trying to poke the Bear Named Edwin. It seems to me the straight edge “clip” was created when the edge of the stock sheet was cut to the proper length. The curved edge “clip” was created by the previous punched planchet. In both instances the metal has been “clipped”. Since the result is actually incomplete planchets and the TPGs put this verbiage on labels, Occam’s Razor demands the simplest explanation which is to say they are incomplete planchets….well, because they are. But now you can understand why using “clipped” to describe them became used. …imo…Spark @paddyman98 …I apologize in advance…Spark
A very nice incomplete clipped planchet. I say inch because that is the correct term. I also use clipped because more people know what that is and it’s used by TPG’s and LCS’s. As for the date, I can only state that it was minted somewhere between 1938 and 2003. I couldn’t resist.
