Hello all, Meow has found a few wheaties during this penny CRH binge.
One is fairly old, a 1929s. Meow is going to have to look for the penny album in the Cat Hoard to see if Meow has that one or not.
And a small pawful of 40s and 50s ones. Meow found a 1948s with an odd reverse.
it has a very rough area in only one spot of the coin. Meow would guess its PMD. But it might not be as it is very localized. What do you guys think is happening there?

PMD on both. Circulation wear and hits.

    My favorite wheatie mint error.

    From the asphalt mint.

Looks to me like a blob of acid sat on it for a while. Wear, followed by acid attack (corrosion), followed by more wear.

OK thanks. Meow thinks that is what probably happened. It was the kind of PMD Meow had never seen before.

I've been meaning to tell you you ought to change that to DEFDAMDUH because if it's that definitively damaged it ought to be that definitively apparent to anybody looking on it, therefore, duh?

Meow just found the penny album in the Cat Hoard. Of all the new wheaties found, only the 1929s slot was open. Its seems finding pennies in the 20s or older quite difficult CRH. As Meow has a lot of open spaces on the first page.

It was different in the 70s and 80s. Finding older LWCs with mint marks was a thing…not prevalent…but with volume you could find some lower mintage specimens.

The expected useful life of a coin used to be 20 to 25 years. Coins from the '20s are now 90+ years old, so it's no surprise that they are rarely found in roll searches.

Back when change was money, not a nuisance/litter/ballast. I've yet to see my first worn-out State Quarter.

Meow just found another 1929s penny. Cool, but Meow just filled that space in the album. Wish it was another older penny that Meow did not have. Oh well, better than finding nothing.

Meow will take a pic of it soon. Meow thinks it looks better than the first one Meow found.
