    Here's an illustration of my wish list coin.
    It's a Judaean Herod Antipas. I don't want to post an actual photograph until I have one in my possession. They are a bit scarce compared with many of the other Judaean coins and needless to say the ones that are available are fairly expensive. If I find myself in the eye of that perfect storm of events---computer up and running, VCoins on the screen, mouse in hand, credit card in other hand, and a burning desire to add an extraordinary coin to my collection---the wish may become reality. SOON!!! LOL! Picture 1.png

    The one and only coin that I lust after is owned by a CT member. I don't normally "lust" after gold coins, but this one is absolutely breathtaking. Not only has it gorgeous colouring, but we know exactly where this coin was on an exact date in history.

    I am a cheap (you figure it out) so my current wish coin that I'm lusting after will probably only sent me back $300 to $700 depending on condition.

    It's not outrageously expensive, but it will be a while before I get one because I'm focusing on Islamic and Indian coins for the next few months after my recent detour back to Roman and Greek coins. I need me them Asian coins more than I need another Greek, so this is an achievable grail that is unobtainable due to personal collection focus choices I've made for the next few months.

    PS: It's my 2000th post. Yay! :woot::cool::D

    You poor guys, 2000 posts of my incomprehensible dribble and endless self-delusion of grandeur. Thanks for your patience. :sorry:

    seriously, i wouldn't really know where to begin.

    pish has as good example as i can think of, a boscoreale denarius.....but that's never going to happen. but man, it is....well...HOT...so HOT.

    careful deacon ray, browsing ancient joe's coin pics will lead to some impure coin thoughts for sure. :D

    I prefer to dream about coins I can actually own. I guess you could say it's a failure of imagination on my part.

    I obviously drool over many unaffordable examples I will never own unless I sell my house and volunteer myself into homelessness to own the coin, but I never actually dream of owning them or visualize myself holding them because I know it's unobtainable and not worth crying over. I just admire them from afar.

    @Sallent sometimes a coin will sing to you whether you can afford it or not. I have coins that sang to me even though they are nowhere near the best examples. This particular coin sings to my soul, I can't explain it more than that. I know I will never own it, or even see it.It makes my heart glad to know it exists.

    physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

    I don't know enough about ancients to have a wish list yet. Any wish list I make right now would include an Athenian owl, a Lydian Lion, and a denarius from Julius Caesar. And y'all would scream "noob" so loud..... hahah.

    Thanks Pish! :) I appreciate the compliments! It's one of my favorites as well.

    As for my wishlist coins, I managed to cross a big one off of my list a few weeks ago which I have yet to post. I expect that my next big targets will require me to wait for quite some time, but part of the enjoyment is the thrill of the hunt, so I can't complain!

    I don't actively collect ancients (I have maybe five to my name?) but I have a desire to one day collect ancient coins that reference or depict Jesus Christ. For this thread, I'd have to use this coin as my wish list: [IMG]

    I have 4 coins on my wish-list. One is a lifetime portrait denarius of Julius Caesar, another is a nice Augustus anepigraphic denarius on a large flan, the third is a double portrait denarius of Caligula, and the last is the famous Antony-JC portrait denarius.

    CNG has occasionally had these facing bust coins of Edward the Confessor in their shop (which is where the picture below comes from), and I've occasionally seen them at auction. It is attainable, but not right now. I suppose I have a few others, but am chasing more attainable coins at the moment.
