Holy cow, you guys are a rough crowd. The ebay lister got the 1974 date right, and you're all hammering him for misrepresenting the denomination and president. Sheesh!
The seller is looking for “a fish.” If they catch one, they have made their day. I’ll give him this. That Ike Dollar is scarce. It’s definitely in much worse condition than most Ikes are.
It seems simple, if you buy a coin you find suspicious to either: return it immediately, or immediately send it to ICG and if it is fake back to Ebay or the seller for refund. It is an inexpensive and accurate solution. There are some true experts on this forum in certain areas and if you trust them, most all will usually give their opinions. IMO, Jim
Yes Jim, your opinion is a truthful one! I guess the problem is I’m from the old school of thought. Do it once and do it right! My parents would slap my ass silly if they thought I was lying or cheating someone! Now that I’m rounding third, Im hoping it rubs off on someone.
I would confirm the part of your parents if you were knowingly doing that, but many people do it unknowingly, usually due to a lack of coin/bill knowledge. I seriously doubt many of the coins on eBay or Etsy have been verified. Its the old " Fool me, and I will try to fool someone else for a little more" Jim
yes Jim, a Boston Irish Italian Catholic upbringing will do that to you! Sadly today, honesty is not as important as it was back when I was as a kid. People have no respect for others and less for themself.
You never heard of the 1974 Roosevelt Half Dollar coin??? My man, where HAVE YOU BEEN?! Oh, and if you turn it over, it shows a kakapo parrot flying over the Mojave Desert. $800 BIN is a STEAL.
Posting items with crazy prices is what legit sellers do, too. It's using eBay as a form of advertising. Everybody gets to see the item, and if your eBay handle or eBay store name is the SAME NAME AS your online presence or coin shop, then potential buyers with half a brain in their heads put 2 and 2 together and find you via google and contact you outside of eBay and then the real negotiations take place outside of eBay. You get to avoid the eBay fees that way, of course. The beauty of doing this is that someone may just come along and buy your item at that listed insane price!
I think we have a winner! As long as the sellers history is clean and you can work out a reasonable price, why not? I have an issue with the prices I see in the red book and the amount of money these, I’ll be nice, bandits want to charge for a raw coin. Most if not all are cleaned, doctored up, or polished. Many won’t show close up images, and most are beat to hell. The r book says, as an example, $8 in vf condition and some coin seller is starting at $50? That seems a bit off in my world!
Sal, send me an email with your address and I’ll send those washing machine masterpieces! Dime mostly! That is if you want them?
