A friend showed me his incomplete Mercury folder. He thought he had a 1916D. I'm pretty sure he's right. It's the one coin I need to complete the collection. It's in pretty rough shape, but I think it's authentic. I can just make out the top of the "D".
What grade is it? Less than G? What's it worth? Wed Jun 05 15-00-55.jpg

You apparently did not like the answers you got from your
earlier started thread. Send the coin to TPG. If it's good
pay the agreed upon price plus grading fee. If it's bad they
    pay the grading fee.

I see from the other thread that your friend has had this since the early 1980s. Problem is, this coin was heavily counterfeited long before that.

This might be a genuine example; I certainly don't believe that all genuine 1916-D dimes have been slabbed. But the odds are heavily against you.

I missed this thread earlier. I will tell you straight. I have a 16-D that is AG3 and looks almost identical to yours. It is in an ANACS holder in my safe deposit box. I also have a very well done 16-D counterfeit that I have owned since the 1980’s (coincidentally) that fills the hole in my book. I would challenge many to prove my counterfeit hole filler is counterfeit. Some of these old criminals did a very good job….. Bit I think yours is genuine. It’s hard to pinpoint the mintmark placement when the rim is worn down but that one does appear correct from the little I can tell. Good luck!

This thread has me intrigued. I have a complete set of Mercs that was assembled from pocket change in the forties and early fifties by a friend who lived in Oklahoma when he was a kid. I think I'll send the 16-D off for authentication and slabbing.
