I'd like to join. I think I'd go for the Alexander Jannaeus prutah, though there are many tempting options!

I’ll try to do the drawing in the early AM hours of Saturday the 1st, unless stuff gets too crazy at work.

So if anyone wants to squeeze in a last-minute entry, you’ve got a few hours left in which to do it.

And if you’ve got anything left unfinished that has a May deadline, you’d better hurry up! ;)

Last-minute addition to the prize selection. This was donated by @Randy Abercrombie. Standard apologies for my usual wretched phone photography.

United States: 1873 silver Seated Liberty quarter, arrows at date, Open 3 variety (ANACS G4)

    IMG_8530.jpeg IMG_8531.jpeg IMG_8532.jpeg

    Numista-3659. ANACS cert. #7409646.

Open 3 variety. Lower grade and well worn, but original, with full rims and no real distractions- just “honest wear”. Arrows at date subtype. This was done by the Mint in 1873 (just as it was in 1853-55) to indicate a change in the weight standard of the coin.

Per Numismedia (5/31/2024), this is an $82 coin in G4. That figure seems rather inflated, but it does make this a nice giveaway prize.

I'm a hotel night auditor, meaning I singlehandedly run an 85-room hotel overnight.

The bar is supposed to close at 10:00 PM. Here it is at 1:05 AM, just after Niles the bartender left. TopGolf simulators still going. We've got several wedding groups in house and he stayed open late.

So there will be a mess to clean up. Thankfully, Niles is the most considerate and competent of our bartenders, and he gave me thirty bucks for having to deal with that. (Niles is a good guy.)

So here I am at 3:20-something AM, when I'm still trying to catch up on stuff at the desk (never mind cleaning up the bar and patio).

We'll see if I can get caught up in time to do the coin drawing by the end of my shift.

    Back to work... *sigh*

Rob, I had a friend who ran a Best Western. The stories he told, the crazy moments he’d experienced and the hours put in made me appreciate the quiet hours of retirement! lol
Mrbadexample, congrats sir! Just one question, how does that CALLING thing work? Enjoy your prize!

Yeah, funny how he said it was “calling” him, and his saying that called it right home for the win!

    Hmm… let’s try that…

Hey you guys! This is really calling to me!

Oh fantastic! Thank you so much LM for the prize and the good wishes of the other entrants.
I didn't see anyone else interested in the 2 piastres, but will you just look at it? That's why it called to me, and the small gods are kind. :D

I believe it’s had one or two other admirers over the last five months or so (I bought it in January.)

Normally I would prefer that my international contestants choose a raw (unslabbed) coin as a prize, because I can ship those as a “letter” without paying package rates and requiring a customs declaration.

Slabbed coins are only shippable at the package rate, and to do a customs declaration I have to ship them from the post office, which is 25 miles from home. (I live way out in the country.)

BUT- don’t sweat that. The package rate on a single slab to the UK won’t be too bad, and I’ve got an expensive ancient (and another package) to ship anyway, so I’ll be making the trek to the distant downtown PO soon.

Besides, you should have it. :)
