That, sir, is an excellent question! The nicest AU58s have equivalent eye appeal to many MS coins in the MS64/65 range. That little touch of wear equates to tremendous savings to acquire a really nice looking coin.
After seeing some examples here, I can no longer understand why people buy the grade and not the coin! Some of these are ridiculously pretty and for some of the expensive ones, probably 50% of the cost of an MS
I think investors are more concerned with grade (and price). Collectors buy the coin. It's more than just an investment.
Thats one of the nicest AU-58 1917 -P SLQ FH coins I've seen . If I saw this one I never would have bought my 65 . Good eye !
Thank you!By the way,I bought this in old anacs soapbox holder and it was a Ms61FH,but i know some people love 58's like this so I'm pretty certain if I ever sell this one I will do alright. Appreciate the kind words.
Much tougher Date/MM, particularly in higher grades. Part of my 1858 business strike set. PCGS/CAC AU58.
