Welcome Ed Snible, I am sure you will enjoy your experience on CT as I have. Yes there is a few of us still waiting for coins from recent Naumann auctions, I suppose we will have to wait and see, I like you are sitting out this weekends. By the way what is your main collecting theme?
I received in email from Ritter (in German). I translated it, and they are basically offering a 20% discount on all their coins. (Never get these types of offers.) I wonder if they are feeling the effects on German antiquity laws, and folks are not buying from German Dealers? I feel sorry for all the German dealers if this is starting to happen.
Americans may not buy from dealers in Germany any more, or to a lesser extent now, dunno. In any case, I am in DE and was not offered that discount. Christian
Love your country. Used to have a Factory there that used to visit a lot. Your comment is as I am suspecting also. They may be targeting Americans, trying to get business back...
FWIW, I won Yeah, I got the email too. Too bad they don't have anything in their inventory I'm interested in. Recently, I won a coin in another German dealer's auction and it was shipped a day after I paid the invoice. Apparently other auction houses are interpreting the new law differently.
I was super happy! My lots were finally shipped. Knowing the usual time frame (3 days from them to me) I logged in to FEDEX and got this message: FedEx is closely monitoring Hurricane Matthew. Ach du lieber! nature and law conspiring against me? Say it isnt so!
Ed Snible => I'm also a big fan of monster coins (or myth creature coins) ... I'd love to see one of your cool examples ... welcome & cheers!!
I recently picked up my first Roman error coin. A bockage of L. Plautius Plancus from 47 BC featuring Medusa. From the "WJP Brockage Collection", which was 18 individual and five group lots of ancient bockages sold on VAuctions. Previously from a CNG sale in 2003.
I'm waiting for a Judaean Mattathias Antgonus coin from Israel. Into the second week now. I understand that Rosh Hashanah holidays slowed things a bit. Then there's the wait for the Israel Antiquities Authority export documents (up to two weeks). I'm not complaining. Here's the dealer's images.
Just got an email from NN. "Today we received the export license for your Invoice No. ... of Auction 44." They go on to write "The Antiquity office already approached us for a simplified process, so things will be smoother (and faster) in future."
I wonder if it is possible for German and Austrian sellers to obtain export licenses before offering coins for sale. I don't know anything about export licenses. If a destination is required for a given coin, I guess this pre-licensing wouldn't work.
That's what I was wondering, TIF. Perhaps they could get the entire auction pre-approved for export. Of course, then they run the risk of one tough coin holding up the entire sale.
I cannot answer for coins, however, when I moved thousands of shipping containers and less-than-containers (small shipment, air, partials, etc.) worldwide, we always had to present documentation to customs including ADDRESSES, content, certifications, hazard documents, etc. as to WHERE they are shipping just prior to shipment. I wonder if customs / MOU Agents would require the same for COINS, and prior-approvals may be, unfortunately, irrelevant...
Don't know about the situation in Austria, but a German coin dealer who sells to customers outside Germany will have done that. Remember you are talking about old (>100 yrs) coins with a value of €2,500 here, and of specifically listed "archeologically relevant" coins of any value ... Christian
If this only applies to coins valued €2,500 and over, why is everyone still waiting on their Naumann winnings? Very few, if any, sold for that much. ... Speaking of Naumann, the following blurb accompanied the invoice from today's auction: Maybe I'll receive today's wins this year after all!
I hope me too also, I did not make any bid yesterday, as usual, some went sky high, which I could not really understand...no bargains...
