Yeah, yeah, I know. Why would anyone collect SBA's? Consider this more of a browse of a local B&M's unwanted albums. Earlier this year I was in a local B&M looking through some of their albums. I noticed a few SBA albums and thought WTF. I looked through them for toner business strike SBA's, and found a few, which I agglomerated into one album. I couldn't find a single decently toned business strike 1981 SBA, so I got one proof. I also couldn't decide which 1979 D I preferred, so I got two of them. For all 8 coins, and the album they went in, I can't remember exactly what the cost was, but the total was either $10 or $15. The images are by Bob Campbell, and I think he did an excellent job.
What? No near date '79-P! Does anyone remember years ago when someone was trying to get the grading services to attribute "Full Talons"? Chris
Some of the nicest SBAs I've seen .... I have a closet affinity for these coins, I was born that year, and someone, probably my grandparents bought me a '79 proof set. Which I gazed at many a times when I was a kid....that set did not survive my many moves, cars and girlfriends, and to this day, I still wonder if I owned the clear s version..... And no, I never did go out and buy another '79 proof set, but one of these days, when $$$ is better, I'll suck it up and spend $100 for a clear s 79 proof set
Cool dollars! I developed a fondness for them after finding a 1979-P Near Date/Wide Rim in circulation.
Full Talons makes just as much sense as FH, FS, FT, or FBL. Have you ever actually attempted to collect Full Talon SBAs? They are harder to find than you might expect, especially for some dates. Full Thumb Walkers are also meritorious of designation.
When was a kid when these came out I collected a several camera film tubes of them. I still have them but never had looked them over. I do like the Reverse though.
Nope, not a joke. There aren't many serious collectors of SBAs, but some of them do look for FT coins. I built a set a few years ago, but have since sold it. Some of them are actually quite difficult to find in FT.
Whenever I see one I think of the term sufferage... and I ain't talking about giving women the right to vote A couple of the op's coins are nice for sba's though
The SBA obverse isn't pretty, but count me as the weirdos that like the coin as a whole. The reverse is fantastic and the size and everything else was a well done effort overall. If they made them in silver I feel they would be highly popular and yes I know they shouldn't ever have been made in that. The SBAs get a much worse rap then they deserve and there are far far worse coins that are much more popular in my opinion
