I have been contacted by a coin dealer who is attempting to send some Chinese coins to PCGS. My reaction was to call PCGS directly. He replied that his customer did and was on hold for over forty minutes with no result so he hung up and sent an Email. He received a "stock" reply that did not answer his simple question.

I am banned from posting on Collectors Universe; but I can read the posts so...

Will a member here who is a member there please post this question on CU:

DOES PCGS GUARANTEE THAT ANY CHINESE COIN THEY SLAB IS GENUINE.

PS I suspect it may be the same as NGC. AFAIK, they do not guarantee the authenticity of the ancient coins in their slabs. THANKS!

And everybody will be happy even if by some chance it really wasn't. Who is going to break open a positive slab grade after paying the money for it and neither will anyone else who sells/buy it. Well maybe Insider who can be that way :) !!!

I wonder how up-to-date the info is. Somewhere on the web I read that they no longer guarantee Chinese coins. I guss some troll is trying to mess with them. THANKS, I'll pass on the info.

Many people prefer NGC for foreign coins. Many PCGS fans don’t know that. PCGS is #1 for U.S. coins, but NGC has more of the world and token grading markets.

Agree. I was just interested in the PCGS guarantee for Chinese coins. There is a lot of talk about the Chinese coins being slabbed by TPGS in the US and the consultants they use. Unfortunately, it appears that the counterfeits got so deceptive that they may escape detection before most US authenticators learned what the genuine coins should look like.

Think of it this way, we know that US Trade dollars and Bust dollar counterfeits were slabbed as genuine years ago (two coin types that US professional authenticators at PCGS and NGC should know inside and out) before they were detected, so what do you think is possible with Chinese coins?
