Thanks:), but I doubt I will post here much in the near future, I have very few coins that are even remotely close in regards to the known exact years they were minted to those that will be required over the next 200 responses or so. :D

I have one of those as well. Any idea why mine has a copper plug. It's apparent that it was part of the planchet prior to being struck.

@Chris B - I like it! I might be mistaken, but I believe that your example is struck in "white metal" alloy. The copper plug is present to prevent corrosion. I have a similar medal from Wurzburg. I suspect that these were either trial strikes, or perhaps off-metal strikes in a lower cost alloy for purposes of gifts/keepsakes. I'm curious if others on the board have more information.

That makes sense. Now that I think about it I'm pretty certain mine is not silver. It's at home and I am not so no way to confirm until this evening.

The copper plugs were usually used with Tin coins, so that might be the metal used. The copper has an electrolytic effect, which reduces corrosion.

After the birth of prince Frederick in 1863, a small commemorative medal was struck for Frederick and his brother George. BHM 84, 28mm.

All I have for 1762 is another 5 Kopek. We are almost done with these.

1762 quarter guinea. The ideal denomination for completionists, with only 2 currency years (1718 & 1762) plus a 1764 pattern.
