When you gonna realize that the next thread is already here ? It's this one ! Just say what ya gotta say.
I rank Security of deliver much higher. Speed is near bottom after all of the other things we can't mention as per question.
Q: Isn't that a shipping thing? I mean, Registered Mail is Registered Mail, right? BTW, all Registered Mail is SLOW, compared to most alternatives.
Since I don't slab, I would have to say that my impression of slabbers (except, of course for Kurt) is that they are dealers looking for turnover, so, of course speed of service is of importance.
Yes, if I'm sending coins in, and literally 100% of the other factors are exactly the same, faster turnaround time is always better. But, you don't need a thread or a poll to answer that question. In fact, I would say that as is this is a meaningless question. If literally 100% of all the other factors were the same, I would choose a TPGS that wrapped return shipments in wrapping paper with cute puppies on it. That does not make puppy wrapping paper an important factor in deciding which service to use.
It takes hops , recording, and then another hop. The fewer the hops the more secure( chance it will get lost, misplaced , or damaged). So the closer to the customer, the more secure and usually faster service.
I would say speed is the least important factor for me. I like the looks of PCGS and NGC slabs most. I would say consistent grading is the most important to me.
So between my list of 19 attributes and others' suggestions, you could easily list at least 24, and since the forum software doesn't support Ranked Choice Voting (no sin, nobody's does), you could have people just select 12 out of the 24. Prepare for surprises.
Does a bartender fall into that career classification? If we must have a dum-bass (say quickly) poll, then we might as well throw in as many variables as possible. Chris
Bartender, huh? That's the next step after a Ph.D. in Psychology, right? Or does the fact that you administer mind altering chemicals require the M.D. degree as a prerequisite? "I gotz me a scrip for some tequila here from Dr. Chris."
I hope at least some members consider the next thread I post on this subject as serious market research (I'm getting paid $$$ for this**) done by adults for adults. So make a joke, then please be serious and rank the choices. Thanks. ** NOT!
Tolerance & patience...After a divorce after 31 years of marriage, the loss of both my parents, the loss of both my adopted second parents within 3 years of each other, I have learned both. I am not a full time dealer and this is a hobby for me, slab return time included. I'm in a good place and not in a rush anymore. Receiving my submissions whenever, to me, is like Christmas at any particular time in the year. I'm just happy to see them returned, properly graded.
Wake up Mr. Pollster! There are no adults here. Chris PS. If you got paid for this, then I insist you pay for my vote.
Yeah, and wait until my consulting invoice arrives. Look, speed is good, but there are plenty of other more important things, including (I hope not for members here, but I think I know otherwise) shmaltzy special labels. (I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.)
Well everyone ran off on their own personal tangents and didn't pay attention to the premise of the original question. On the other hand the question is a little meaningless. If there is absolutely no difference between the services except speed of the service and return then or course you go with the fastest one. It is like saying there is only one service and everything they receive every month is shipped back on the last friday of the month, so do you schedule your shipments so they arrive at the TPG during the first week or the fourth week of the month. The problem is when you change this question so that once again everything is exactly the same except X, then X will be the most important reason. So the answer will always be the same. The TPG that does the specified thing better with everything else being exactly the same will always be the TPG of choice.
Thank you @Conder101 I purposely tried to make this a no brainer to convince the people I was arguing with (not CT members) HOW IMPORTANT turnaround time is for a TPGS. Unfortunately, this was probably not the best place to look for confirmation. I'll probably just print your comments and claim there were a few more.
Simplistically, yes. Realistically, no, and here's why. You have preconditioned responses unfairly, because cost, for one example, is not equal between all services. Thus, you could ask the following question . . . "All other factors being equal, is lowest cost most important?" Similarly, knowing that all services do not grade coins to exactly the same standard, you could ask the the following 2 questions, "All other factors being equal, is most conservative grading most important?", and "All other factors being equal, is least conservative grading most important?" The list could go on . . . Thus, by limiting the responses to considering only one element of the TPGs value proposition, you have skewed the results of your inquiry. To me, if I had to pick one factor that should be equal among all TPG's it obviously would be the grading standard . . . a lofty goal, as grading is subjective. Aside from that and Customer Service, all other factors are numerically quantifiable, and easiest to hold constant with one's competitors. I don't entirely disagree with you . . . just the way you posited your argument. Personally, I think the TPG's need to work a deal with one of the big 3 shippers . . . UPS / FEDEX / USPS just like eBay has done to reign in shipping cost, improve security of shipment and expedite delivery. There's probably a worthwhile chunk of business there to leverage in pursuit of a special account. Were I an executive at the TPGs, I'd be looking into ways to simplify building the cost of shipment into the cost of the product.
