Beautiful piece. Looks like an Intaglio mint piece, although I don’t see their name anywhere.
I have the 2 oz. Franklin design from them. The quality is superb and the design is nearly a perfect copy of the original half dollar design.

Looks like a worm where his eyebrow should be .
I’ve always wanted one of those but could never pull the trigger. Someday…
    Congrats on yours.

Now I just need a 17-S FH in a soapbox to complete my 1917 type 1 FH set. IMG_0360.jpeg IMG_0361.jpeg

Since my last post in this thread was 2022 - these are all the coins I added in 2023 and the BTW's are this year. So here they are all at once.

Latest. Bought from our own @bikergeek when he upgraded his PSGS Registry Set. Used to be owned by the late Steve Crain aka "Mr. Half Dime". Steve's 2x2 with his notes also pictured.

This is the 1833 LM-3.3 die marriage. Graded AU-58. An R-2 rarity rating.

Reverse T of this coin was used with 13 die marriages/remarriages on coins dated 1832 and 1833. Note obverse clash marks. Also, this is an early die state of the LM-3.3 as defined by the lack of a die chip between the upright and crossbar of E1 on the reverse.

Proof to me that a coin can be a lower grade and details and still be a fantastic looking coin!

Nice coin, considering how old it is. Would it still get a details grade for those two rim dings anyway? Do dings get the details designation every time?

Obviously a matter of opinion so here's mine FWIW:

No, dings do not get the details designation every time. It depends on a number of factors including severity of the ding, number of dings, and how worn the coin.

For this coin, the reverse scratch is the more serious defect so it's the one that gets listed on the label. Those rim dings are not that bad but it could have gone either way in the grading room. In general, my impression is that the lower grade the coin, the more forgiving the graders will be which makes sense - a well circulated and worn coin is expected to exhibit a certain amount of wear and tear. So a small rim ding on a F-15 coin might not merit a details grade but the same coin in a AU-58 grade with the same rim ding might very well get a details grade.

18940.jpg 18940.jpg 1894o rev.jpg One of my recent acquisitions. May try freezer method of removing filth from coin just to see how that works. This one also qualifies for the "less than $50" purchase thread. Grade? Looks XF + to me in a semi-key date. I have more stuff to post. More stuff than time to post. I have another semi key date arriving this week. Edit tried to get the obverse to post full size. Didn't work. Sorry for the double post. 18940.jpg 1894o rev.jpg
