I've been finding a lot of early '60s cents and nickels lately, kinda strange! Found this one today. The pictures don't show the contrast between brown and red very well, but there is a distinct difference from the brown center to the red outer band on both sides.
Looks like AU58RB…worth maybe 5-7 cents USD, imo. NGC World PG/NumisMaster has MS60 @ 10 cents. A nice starter keeper until you come across a better one. I didn’t see anything special noted for it like the 1955 strap/no strap, f’rinstance…Spark
Thanks Spark! Hard to believe these are still found in circulation, maybe some old change jars are getting dumped for gas or grocery money?
The darker areas are probably due to handling , whereas the lighter areas are surrounded by raised lettering. Notice in the motto , that a word has the separation between each letter which is lighter than when a word is farther separated. Could be body secretions or other objects in close range that causes it, such as body secretions or something on the hands. Given time, the whole surface will turn brown. Sometimes seen on US copper over time also. Jim
