Nice find with the ring. Where did you find the $3 in cash? Was it just left somewhere?

Yes duh (me duh). So I realized on this ring there is a little clasp and the top opens up to keep something small inside. (drugs?) It was empty. secret.png

I was at a little playground inside a larger park, it was very early and a little drizzly. I almost didn't see it and then I realized it was $2 lying on the ground. (Prob from the night before.) A few minutes later I saw the other one a little ways away.
I have found cash before (detecting.) First a $5, then 2 tens, and one time a twenty. As well as some odd ones here and there. Not detecting, I have also found a lot of cash. Wallets I have returned with the money in it.

    Thanks for the detailed answer!:)
It is very interesting how much lost cash can be out there.
I'm sure there was more years ago when more people used cash.
I know of a case where someone was metal detecting and found a sterling silver chain. It was laying on the ground and they just saw it. It was in fine shape and got them about $15 online.
I'm sure it was exciting to have a day where you found $20. That makes for a good hunt no matter what else you find.

It was very early in the morning. Sunday morning. People are out (hanging out, partying, late at night on Saturday) if you come late you miss those finds.

Getting an early start on my Easter hunt. I hit 2 spots. Silver ring at 1 and a dollar coin at 2. It was early in the AM just starting to get light and I get a really good signal on the ring. But when I first looked at it (I didn't think it was gold) even though it had a gold finish/patina. When I get in the car, I looked at it and figured it was copper. But when I got home and looked through the loupe, it is stamped 925 next to a fancy lattice designed heart hallmark, the quality, weight, hallmark and signal all say that it's silver. It must be gold plated over silver as I have pulled a few legit silvers that were plated gold over them. I tried to show the stamp and hallmark at the bottom. Easter4.png

Nice finds! I'm always surprised to see the modern dollar coins found with a detector since so few people use them.

I have pulled 144 dollar coins, 3 of them Ikes. One a nice 2003P NIFC Sac in AU/near mint. Another an NIFC Native American dollar, Sequoyah 2017D.
This photo is missing the last 25 dollar coins, I guess I need a new photo. DCUpdate.JPG

I'm pretty sure that the penguin you found is a monopoly board game piece!

That is amazing to find that many dollar coins!
It is certainly more worthwhile to get a dollar over a dime or Lincoln cent. I find so few people that use dollars coins. Usually when I spend a dollar coin the cashier looks it over and makes a comment like "I don't see these often", or some have even asked their supervisor if they accept these coins or not. I'm really surprised that there are that many out their to be found.
Do you mostly go to parks, schools, or to beach areas?

Found a lot of dollar coins at schools and some parks. No beaches here. All the schools are now locked up like prisons, even though it is the public tax money that supports them, they act like it is private property when it is not.
Many of them have large attached greenbelts which local people have used for decades (walking dogs, playing, etc.) and most of those have limited or no access now. It is an absolute disgrace. I assume if the kids buy lunch or use vending machines maybe they get dollar coins in change.
My GF said the same thing as you. "Who even has dollar coins to lose?"
Now I am informed all the kids get free lunch. (Didn't use to be all.) My tax dollars at work again. They are spending all the school money on locks, chains, fences, gates to keep me out on Sundays. And no vending machines in elem. She suggest the grandparents must give them dollar coins.

As for the penguin I have found a number of the old style Monopoly pieces (hat, dog, wheelbarrow, iron I think) not familiar with the new game pieces. I think this is the second penguin of this same type I have found. She says no, but I think I remember another penguin like this.

How long do you detect to find that much change?
Also, do you use re-chargeable batteries for the detector?

I use a battery charger which helps because it takes 2 9 volts which are now very expensive. Most hunts are 3-4-5 hours. I've had some shorter than that and some longer but most in the 4-5 hour range because I drive to a number of spots.

I wasn't expecting much. So it was nice to hit a dollar coin and a few mini spills. SacC.png day470.JPG

Nice! That's a lot of coins to find!
And a whole roll of Lincoln cents!:)
Do you dig everything, or do you try to discriminate pennies?

Some of the coins I had to dig, sometimes they are just under the wood chips. There were a lot of pennies but it's nice to get some targets.
I can usually tell if a cent is zinc, and sometimes I won't dig those if I don't feel like it, or if there are a lot of quarter signals. But when they are copper they sound like anything (dime, silver, etc.). Although one time I got a weak signal, and then I popped out a dollar coin that was standing on edge deep down. So you never know.

Zinc and Gold give of close to the same signals on alot of detectors. So what I say is dig every target. I pulled a 14K class ring that was coming up zinc and the size of a cent.
