Those older Czech pieces are really nice, especially proof issues. Most have small mintages with thousands later being melted at the mint. I'm surprised they don't sell for more than they do.

I picked this up from auction yesterday - Japan 1 Yen Year 28 (1895). Not desperately scarce, but a handsome design.
Auction house had described it simply a "A Chinese Coin"!

Is that basically a natural gold nugget with carved details and becoming a coin?.

I just pulled the trigger on this one. I like coins on coins plus the "history of the dollar" I found to be interesting on a coin from Spain. When I saw the reverse had a Wildman I was hooked.

    Spa201705.jpg

Commemorative issue: History of the Dollar

Obverse: In the center, inside a pinwheel pattern, is reproduced the portrait of the king Felipe VI looking left, wearing the distinctive of Captain General; circling the central motif, clockwise and inside another pinwheel pattern, appears the obverse and reverse of a coin of eight reales; a fleur de lis; obverse and reverse of a Dollar of 1794, the first issued in the United States; another fleur de lis and front and back of a Joachimsthaler.
    Script: Latin
    Lettering:
    HISTORIA DEL DÓLAR
    FELIPE VI
    REY DE ESPAÑA
    HISTORY OF THE DOLLAR

Reverse: On the reverse, in the center of the coin appear the Columns of Hercules, girded with a band with the motto PLVS VLTRA and, below, the mark of Ceca. Surrounding the central motifs, in a clockwise direction, appear the obverse and reverse images of a Reichsthaler, a Leeuwendaalder, a Speciedaler and, in the lower part of the coin, a Maria-Theresien-Taler; surrounding these motifs, a gillile of pine nuts interrupted in its upper and lower part.
    Script: Latin
    Lettering:
    ESPAÑA 2017
    300 EURO
    PLUS ULTRA
    M

Edge: Plain with numbers (the numbers indicate the serial number of the coin, with a maximum mintage of 1000 units)
    Script: Latin
    Lettering: 0452/1000

Mint: M Royal Mint of Spain (Real Casa de la Moneda), Madrid, Spain (1591-date)

Comments: The Royal Mint (FNMT) has wanted to dedicate its first mintage of a one-kilogram silver coin to the history of the American dollar, whose origins go back to Central European thaler and Spanish colonial America, with the real of eight.
The coin reproduces different numismatic pieces that are fundamental to understand this history of the dollar, its origins and ancestors

    Composition: Silver (.999)
    Weight: 1007 g
    Diameter: 100 mm
