1942 D Silver Nickel

  1. 1942 Nickel Denver Mint on the reverse side it has a S on top of the dome it is a little fade circulated strike

    Both nickels were made in 42. If they have the smaller MM besides the Monticello they are 75%copper 25%nickel. Any with the large MM above the dome are the silver composition.
    43'-45' were only struck on silver comp planchets.
    I am seeing one with a P, and two copper nickel D MM Jeffs.

    The only silver coin there is the P mint.

    I'm confused. I see 2 pictures of the exact same Nickel.

    …he’s edited his original post. By now all I see is one reverse pic with a Denver mm. What ever is left on top of the dome is gouges and contact marks.

    Sorry, no S above the dome…imo…Spark

    On silver nickels the large P, D or S is the mint where they were minted. It’s an easy way to know it’s silver.

    That is well circulated and looks like a standard alloy nickel. War nickels have a dark metallic look when circulated:
