Howdy folks! Added this one to my collection; only my second ever CC dollar. My other one is NGC graded and still housed in its original GSA holder. This one doesn't carry the GSA pedigree and is in a TrueView PCGS holder. Based on my trusty Morgan Silver Dollars Redbook, 1882 - 1884 tend to be most the common and affordable Carson City dollars. It says there aren't any wildly fascinating VAM classifications for '82, though I may spend some time trying to pinpoint it in the future.
MS61. But what do I know? Nice coin! Also, it appears to have a die crack on the reverse. So maybe some sort of VAM. But I have no idea if it is or isn't. VAMS give me headaches.
You could be right. This is why I hate buying raw toned coins. I can't tell if they are environmentally damaged or enhanced. I am amazed at some of the grades on toned coins. This is a nice coin, but I've seen some doggies upgraded way above what they would be if blast white.
I ran across a Boone Commem today, MS67 but with a different collectors wants. The grade wasn't exactly wrong. Just not for me.
This is just like that 1935 Peace Dollar GTG. The reverse is MS64 and it looks to have great luster, but the obverse surfaces are really baggy including the focal areas. To me the grade is an MS62, but taking into account the CC bump, the reverse, and the overall luster, I am saying MS63. MS63
Toning is spotty but good, A bit of corrosion especially on the right side of the obverse. bag marks are apparent. Nice coin MS-60 could be a bit better.
I'm at a 61. This dollar probably lived in a bank bag for a long time. But don't fear- any MS CC dollar is worth a ton!
