    Drat!
Used the wrong kind of con dip.
Now, who has a solution to remove dried cheese from coins?

Pretty much figured out Con was a typo vs coin. Thanks for clarifying though. :D

The past few years I've become a fan of ACS grade 100% isopropanol (IPA). I don't like using xylene unless I have to. IPA is less "annoying" to work with as a solvent, works better under some circumstances, and is generally safer than xylene.

You're the chemist Thad, I'll take your word for it. Personally I have no experience with isopropanol. But am I correct in assuming - given your comment "unless I have to" - that there are some things that it won't safely remove that xylene will safely remove ?

    It's simply a question.

IPA has some polarity to it given by its OH group, compared to completely non-polar xylene. This polarity will allow it to remove many polar residues that xylene wouldn't touch. For those that want to learn a little chemistry:

Good to know and thank you ! But will it also remove everything else that xylene removes ?

No, IPA is not as good at removing non-polar residues as xylene but pretty close.

just received this today. me not expert, but MS70 did not earn this coin this status. i think some kind of "dip" did tho. No mechanical damage what so ever including hair lines. that and some strange colors in there. stereo micro shows it best. this here is for my new sample album in quarters of course. 20240320_153018[1].jpg

...so, xylene would remove tar while IPA wouldn't

IPA would marginally remove it, this is a case where xylene rules the day!
