I ran across this at a coin shop today. I bought it as it was less than a Constantine mid grade coin. It was marked Julia Maesa I found one on Vcoin that looks not exact but very close. Its funny how things work out sometimes. I went in to look at some 1925 stone Mountain commemorative's and saw this Denarius. I had just the night before been looking at this type to add to the collection. So I bought both the stone mountain and this one. He said he gets very few requests for Roman or ancients. Started me thinking, maybe local coin shops would be a good source to look for these. Since there is not much interest they may be cheap.
You are on to something. My regular guy knows everything one could know on US coins and is completely bamfoozled when he buys a collection that includes any ancients. The piece will go in a 2X2 and get placed in his cabinet with a $25.00 sticker every time.
Good luck. I've gone to quite a few coin shops and made very fair offers on what few ancient coins they had and they were all rejected. The dealers (familiar with only modern US) had the usual misconception that just because something is old, it must be valuable. So they put a $200 price tag on common LRB's that barely grade Fine. In a few cases, the dealers told me they could get more on eBay, lol. Ok, good luck with that.
