Hi all, I have posted in coin chat as well but I thought let me post here to see if anyone has additional comments on it. Others have helped, a possible Reciprocally Deformed Convexo-Concavo Dies…. What does anyone else think? Thank you, Pam
I had a concaved coin once. It was a QUII farthing. My research lead me to find it was do to excessive striking pressure that can cause such a coin. I have a hard time applying that theory to your coin due to the edge chamfer on both side of your coin, which usually denotes a low pressure strike. The missing plating on the reverse may/could be a partial cause of the coin bowing, but that is just a guess on my part and there is no science that i know of to back it up. It reminds me of how a paper photo curls up on a humid day. Error coin? maybe. Abnormality? yes. I would keep stashed away. Next year you will know more about coins than you do now.
Just a thought: the dies start out as convex rods. It would be hard to believe that once the working die was made that any aspect of that would be present, but I find it curious that the 6 and outer devices are weakest in your specimen.
I did read about it. Just wanted some other thoughts. Someone had told me to look at this.. but if not in hand, no way one can determine. Thanks! https://www.error-ref.com/?s=convex
