Good day, I'm not the best when it comes to color identity with Lincoln Memorial Cents. My friend asked me if I could ask coin talk if this coin looks normal for an uncirculated coin. I haven't seen to many with such a light color, almost yellow. So would it be considered a red or might it been tampered with? Any thoughts are welcome. regards. Sting.
Lot of wear and tear on that Lincoln. It's been cleaned also. Color is enhanced by the light. Not much value but it's a keeper in my opinion.
I think your coin is in MS-60 condition, Abe has a nice high cheekbone. There are a few bag marks and some planchet chatter on the reverse. It seems to have original surfaces. Very nice coin indeed. The obverse field is practically blemish free. The gold toning is nice and even, and I think it look quite natural and plausible with 90 years of storage. Notice the Incidental Die Abrasion at /under the PL of pluribus, The surface texture of the coin is different do to feeder fingers rubbing on the anvil / reverse die. I think your coin has not seen one day of circulation and has surly never been cleaned. You can even see the Indirect Design Transfer / Ghosting on the reverse. These things I mention go away with circulation. https://www.error-ref.com/accidental-die-abrasion/
http://www.varietyvista.com/01a LC Doubled Dies Vol 1/DDO 1936.htm I think you coin was struck with late stage / worn dies which is the reason for the IDT on the reverse. The top of the left wheat ear looks to have had debris impacted in the die / struck through grease.
Chemically, copper and zinc can react to give a "more yellow copper color". Whether this is what happened on purpose or by accident. Zinc atoms release a couple of electrons and copper grabs them on the surface and thus Produce the surface coloration. IMO, Jim
The face maybe but the other details are sharp. I don't collect them, but photos can be the devil. There are deceptive photographers out there and they are quite good at it.
What kind of pole? Like a telephone pole or like another type of POLL? See? Same pronunciation but different meaning all together. Just being an Ed. LOL.
I am after my Junior high high school experiences. I will look for one unless someone here had a quicker example.
Hey, I like that penny a lot more than the ones I used to collect. Blondes were always fun. Oh, and in my later years, I collected several "Pennys'. Come to think of it, they were full busted. I wonder how much they've toned over the years.
I'm not sure where this is going. The nuances are getting deep. When I was into my collecting prime, everything was cleaned. No carpet to compare to the drapes. Seemed fine to me, all got straight graded.
