I just purchased this 1875 S Quarter Eagle from a member here. Once the transaction is complete I will tell you whom it was as well leave some positive feedback here. Having purchased others coins from him I know the quality he sells.
Having purchased a few gold coins in my time collecting ,this by far is one of the nicest XF. Gold coin I've ever owned.
It's color, condition , and wear to me speaks volumes . Great eye appeal ! Only 11,600 minted!
I wish all my coins over 140 years old looked this good.

Very nice Paddy, I've only purchased a few gold coin. They were all quarter eagles or 2 peso coins.....
None of which I still own, because as soon as I get into a bind, and need to sell something, the gold is always the 1st thing to go, because I know I'll get closer to what I paid than most of my other stuff would bring, in a moment's notice....

BTW Paddy, I can't wait to see what your avatar coin gets graded. As I remember you saying, you sent in a group, not too long ago.

Nicely bought, just at the EF grade after which this issue skyrockets in price. It's been fifteen years since one better than MS63 has appeared at auction. Understandable, since I think there's only two or three. :)

I had that coin under my loupe going to Gettysburg. It's every bit as good as it appears. Couldn't figure out a way to survive jumping out of the car at highway speeds. :D

Nice! I kinda want to buy an 1869-S or similar date.

If I don't find one at the upcoming show, I'll just buy one online as I have some choices in XF45 for about $450 :D

S mint quarter eagles are cool.

Thanks guys, this one just spoke to me. The mintage, condition ,color and eye appeal . I'm sure that it will look as good in hand as the sellers images. This specimen will also be sent in for grading eventually. As I plan on holding on to it .
Dave I just read what you posted on this date ,and mint in higher grades. And must say I wasn't shocked but happy to know that this coin in time could easy appreciate in value as it sits on the EF/AU line.
I'm very happy that I pulled the trigger .

Heavy I am very hopeful it grades 65, that would be nice, should it go higher or receives a plus or star .....let's just say I would definitely doing an Irish jig.

I know who you bought it from, and you couldn't have made a better choice. His stuff is of uniformly very high quality.

Yeah. I know who you bought it from, too. I've bought $5 and $10 Liberty gold from him and they are truly outstanding. You got one fine catch!

Yeah I think you two hit it on the head knowing where this one is coming from . He also has two half dimes that would fit nicely into my H-10 collection ! But this one and another H-10 purchased this week kills my coin budget for sometime to come.
However like I said this one really spoke to me and you know you got to listen to those little voices in your head...lol!

See what I mean? I'm not worried about surviving the ejection, I'm worried about surviving Paddy. :p

I can see it now, Dave jumps out, when the car slows down to a safe ejection speed , paddy hits the E-brake, then realizes he needs to speed back up and bust a u-turn, driving the wrong way down a 4 lane highway, using the berm... Dave hops the fence and Paddy pulls out old reliable, his .44 desert eagle from under the drivers seat... unleashing all 9 of his hollow points in the clip. Hits the E-brake again , busts another u-turn , jumps out of the car, recovers his quarter, realizes he needs to dump the body, as there are no witnesses , ..... well , if you have seen any Mafia Movies , you know the rest.... Luckily, Dave was smart enough, not to mess w the Irish Mob...

Sorry Dave I told you where I was from .....South Baltimore we don't take prisoners . Now in East Baltimore they do ...... but let me just say this.....when it's all said and done......you'll wish you were in South Baltimore . :) BTW East Baltimore is Greek Town .

I actually didn't hang at the Harbor - been there, done that - but wandered down Charles into South to check out a bar I'd been wanting to visit. Struck me as a fairly easy area to live as long as you offer the usual citydweller's respect for your neighbors. Seemed like people cared for what they had.

Actually you're correct on your observations . At one time people would sell their souls to move out of the area.
Except for those who the homes were handed down mother to son ...son to daughter etc....
Mayor Shaffer really opened up the city. Especially South Baltimore . The harbor, Camden yards, etc etc.... we always knew that sooner then later a casino would be in the works.
So houses and neighborhoods that at one time were on a downward swing now are high dollar.
You were talking about Federal Hill and Bucher Hill areas,
gee these days are in the 100 ' s of thousands price tags.
Thirty years ago no one wanted to live there.
I will share an image in a few I need to get it off my cell phone..... I shot the image this afternoon in South Bmore.

Yeah, I had the feeling it was a "recovering" neighborhood. Like NoLibs and Fishtown here. I'd live there comfortably.
