    Ottoman Empire/ Egypt
    AV Sultani AH 1027 (1618)
    Sultan Osman II 1618-22

Osman became Sultan at 14/ he was executed by Janisseries in 1622.
The Janisseries were the elite soldiers of the Ottoman Empire. First born Christian boys were sent to Constantinople to be schooled/ trained/ and then serve the Sultan as his best formations on the battlefield. Problem was as skilled as these warriors were/ some sultans were useless. image25211.jpg

I found that coin while looking for an Ottoman Gold Sultani of his father, Ahmed I, but unfortunately I still haven't found one in good condition (since the Mughal Gold Mohurs of Aurangzeb and Shah Jahan I in top condition don't appear to be for sale anywhere at the moment, I am trying to find some other nice gold coin from the 17th century (the 17th and 3rd centuries are the only two CE centuries I still don't have gold coins from), and the Ottoman Gold Sultani of Ahmed I seemed to be the best candidate).

That Baldwins Islamic Auction is now on sixbid!

Also its hard to find perfect Sultanis from Selim I to Mehmet IV. I have a Ahmad I Misr Mint in MS 63 but looks more like EF.

Now that I bought the Kingdom of Mysore Gold Fanam from the 17th century, the only Ottoman gold coin I will try to acquire is the Sultani of Mehmed II.

While as for Baldwin's Islamic Coin Auction, it is a giant disappointment for me, the few gold coins that are interesting just aren't in good enough condition for me to bid on them.

I agree/ I looked thru them/ nothing to write home about. Its their worst ever/ most of my best ones are from Baldwins in past. I made BIG mistake at their auction yesterday. I ended up loosing beautifull Bayern Dukat at 2700 UK pounds/ should have bid one more time. It was a MS state 1846 Dukat.

If one comes along in good condition for direct sale for something like 5000 EUR, I will buy it, I don't even see the point in bidding for it at auctions, since with the "buyer's premium" the price will probably always get into five figures or close to it.

Agreed/ the auction fees used to be 5 percent in 1980s when a now 10K gold coin was selling for 400-600US/ comm. fees 5 %.
And for poor me living in a Country with a bad Dollar/ I pay 50% more then you living in Croatia with strong EURO. You guys in Europe are so fortunate. Maybe you all should donate some $$$ to an unfortunate person in Canada:( Anything will hel my cause....

The AV Sultanis of Mehmet II are most perfect made/ Bayezid are great too. They start to get sloppy under Selim I/ Sulieman I....
I have the most coins from Mahmud II 1808-39 (25 coins)
Have none from Mehmet II/ Bayezid I/ Selim I/ Selim II/ Ibrahim I/ Sulieman II/ Ahmed II

Who mentioned driving? There must be things that can be done locally in your borough during winter, like shovelling snow, car mechanic work, etc., maybe you could even get a part-time job as a guide in a coin museum or something...
