This one only has a little gold on the back just on the Eagles wing and I can't find a mint mark because I don't know where it is so I looked all over the coin I don't see one I don't know if that means anything or not but it's a half dollar

I'd have thought by now you would have invested in the coin collector's Bible, the Red Book.

I think this is a harshly cleaned example that has since retoned. Many would pay melt for this and not a penny more.

For mintmarks, until 1917, they were on the obverse just below In God We Trust. However, in later dates, it's to the left of the plants on the back. Hopefully this helps!

To me this is a damaged coin since the reverse has obviously been partially plated. Most likely a flash of gold.

The coin actually reminds me a lot of how a 67' half dollar I found about 20 years ago in a burnt out car at the junk yard looked. I found it between the carpet and the floor pan. Got just hot enough to scorch, resulting in discoloration such as what we see on the obverse of the coin in this thread.

It is for this reason I believe the coin in this thread had been in a fire.

This is where you want to look for the mint mark on this coin:

Damaged coin, PMD, that someone tried a science experiment on to plate or dip it with maybe gold wash. Most of the wash has worn away.

At 8 o’clock on the reverse is the mint mark. Yours is a Philadelphia issue. No gold should be on these coins so yours was once plated. Only worth melt value.
