I won this last night 1936 S/S Buffalo 5c Flynn Reference and Cross Reference: RPM-002. Plate coin for The Authoritative Reference on Buffalo Nickels, Treasure Hunting The Top 20th and 21st Century U.S. Coins Flynn Commentary: Repunched S east. Flynn Reference on Buffalo Nickel Varieties Flynn Reference on Top OMM and RPM Varieties Flynn Reference on Top 20th Century Die Varieties (Registry values: N14) Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22SU, PCGS# 3979, Greysheet# 3143) Weight: 5.00 grams Metal: 75% Copper, 25% Nickel
I sure would not grade that an AU58. Maybe a VF35 or 30. I know they have high relief, still it is rather worn.
I love the Buffalo nickels...here is a 1928 S. A bit worn, and I like the toning. My mom was 1 year old when this was minted, and she is still kicking.
And this is why the Buffalo is considered one of the hardest coins to grade. It has a full horn and still shows a split tail. This should never get a grade below a 58. I would bet that if resubmitted to PCGS or NGC it would possibly get into a MS holder, depending on how much luster is broken on the high points.
Dad was born in 1928, and he's still kicking too, but we have to yell at him if he tries to do it without his walker.
My mom and younger sister live in nowheres ville, West Virginia and they are 2 crazy old ladies. I am scared of them, no kidding. Mom is still alive, is what I mean.
Finally got the Jefferson Coins and Currency Set last week at a local coin show. I've been wanting this nickel for the set, but I really like that Jefferson silver dollar too.
I may have posted this before, not sure. But this is a 2000 D Jefferson nickel strike thru. The obverse looks to have been struck thru a piece of cloth and grease. The reverse looks to be just grease. Maybe some die deterioration too.
I probably posted these before. I was surprised to find the banged up nickel in circulation in 2016, as I had never seen one before. I had been out of country for about 9 years at that time.
Yes, it is a 2000. I'm pretty sure its a D but the date and mintmark are so enlarged and blurry its hard see well.
How about a hybrid time travel overstrike (or four)? 1938 Schlag Design Competition nickel strike over a 1993 Jefferson Commemorative Dollar. Z
Thats a D, I went and checked. During those years there was a larger D anyways. Very cool, did ya have to pay for it? I would have.
