Awesome! I love graded low balls

 

I only got this one graded because I thought it was the 1916 D, which they said it wasnt. The back is so worn you can't tell either way, but I think I see a D.

Jeez there are some ghastly coins in this thread. Fascinating!

 

I always thought "lowball" implied a CLEAN low grade, but it seems people are posting many "details" qualified coins, as well. What is the general consensus on this issue?

 

I apologize, I'm not too clear on the difference.

 

Update: I now know the difference.

 

You are correct, by definition a low ball is one that can be clean graded by any TPG. that's why they're so rare, because it's awfully hard to find a naturally circulated coin at a PO-1 or FR-2 grade.

But, I just like seeing beat up coins anyways

 

That scratch across the chin of the large cent ruins it................

 

This may be the lowest grade U.S. pattern coin in existence. It's an 1855 Flying Eagle Cent. It got certified as Fr-2. There are far fewer of these around than there are 1856 Flying Eagles. I suspect that it long served as someone's pocket piece.
