It is pretty convincing, but I'm not a siliqua expert. Maybe I would have been fooled, but I would have bought this if the opportunity arose without asking questions. Let's hear it from the experts to see if I would have bought a fake or not. :p

I quickly went through the BM collection and found a match. Write "Valens Trier" in the search field and if you're diligent enough you'll probably find a few more; they have more than 200 pictures for that type alone.

That's probably as good a guarantee of authenticity as you can get.

Sorry, I'm a beginner and can't tell you whether or not your coin is authentic. I just wanted to say that I think you're avatar is very effective as a graphic image! I'm still experimenting with avatars and I think I've locked in on the one that best symbolizes my love of Biblical coins.

I'm leaning towards a genuine example as well. I hope the 'siliqua' experts agree.
Hmm, is that @ValiantKnight or @Magnus Maximus or someone else???

It's real. Everything about it is right - the style, the metal etc.

Magnus Maximus Dulce et Decorum est....

As others have already said, it's real.
Not bad either, looks to be unclipped.
I would estimate it to sell for $170-220ish.
Here are my two Valens from Trier.

Real, weight is Ok, size also. This issue (TRPS) without dot is not so easy to find. In the BM, siliquae of this issue are less than 10%. Some of them :

I'm kind of bummed out that with all my silver coins, I think 57 now, I still don't have a single siliqua. I keep meaning to buy one, but then I run across a sweet Greek coin, or two sweet denarius that I can have for the price of the siliqua. They ain't exactly cheap for slim little silver coins...but I understand the rarity factor plays a role in the prices. Maybe one day!
