Shield Nickel Varieties

    I mentioned the large collection of shield nickels I acquired in an earlier post so I thought I’d post a few photos. Some of these are the missing leaf variety, some are interesting doubled dates and one is a major doubled die. I have about 150 or so total. Not all are this nice or interesting but there are lots more cool ones too.

    What’s with the 1869 date that looks special. Nice coin. I expect a lot of questions about the others. Like the 68’s

    I think that’s an overdate. Also, according to the flips these were in, those are the only two known missing leaf wide date 1869 examples.
