These are the 5 gold coins I have put in bids for at the Jean Elsen & ses Fils auction: https://elsen.bidinside.com/en/lot/27726/wisigoths-sisebut-612-621-av-tremissis-/ https://elsen.bidinside.com/en/lot/29322/allemagne-hambourg-ville-libre-av-20-/ https://elsen.bidinside.com/en/lot/29646/murabitun-almoravid-ali-bin-yusuf-ad-/ https://elsen.bidinside.com/en/lot/29651/hafsid-abu-abdallah-muhammad-i-ad-/ https://elsen.bidinside.com/en/lot/29664/ottoman-empire-abdul-hamid-i-ad-/
Amazing! I have all of these in MS. For Hamburg I have 9 AV coins/ AV Goldgulden 1Ω97 MS-62 AV Dukat 1664 AV MS Dukat 1828 MS-63 AV Dukat 1864 MS-63 AV 5 Mark 18877-J MS-67 AV10 Mark 1901-J MS-67 AV 20 M 1878-J MS-66 AV 20 M 1913-J MS-66 In Elsen/ only 1 bid 1488 Brabant Demi noble (I will loose it/ my pockets are empty/ so 7K is highest I can go. It will sell for 12+)
I think somebody will outbid me on the Hamburg one (my maximum bid is only 600 EUR), but I expect to win the other 4, although you never know with coin auctions, that Saladin coin I am bidding on that was estimated at 500 GBP is now at 1700 GBP with 2 days remaining till the end of the auction!
Amazing, these are not rare! I bought an Ayyubid AV Dinar MA-shops in MS-64 last year for 325E. Plus in Ablum book it was listed as R/ Saladin AV Dinar are listed C common.
Ayyubid gold dinars aren't rare, that is true, I could go on eBay right now and buy one in solid condition from the Egyptian seller egynotes_74, who based in the Czech Republic, for under 1000 USD, but I am only interested in the Saladin one, and while his gold dinars might not be rare either, I don't see them often in satisfactory condition, which is why my maximum offer is as large as it is (1800 GBP), but I expect that I will soon be outbid and that I will have to find one somewhere else.
This is the Fatimid gold dinar for which I have put in a 280 USD bid (which I don't plan on increasing if somebody outbids me) at the Stephen Album auction: https://www.sarc.auction/FATIMID-al...-4-07g-al-Mansuriya-AH387-or-389-VF_i51848777
Thank you, realistically, I think that somebody will outbid me, if somebody makes an offer 150 GBP higher than my current one, that will mean that I am out of the bidding, and I find it hard to believe that nobody on either the internet or the live part of the auction will put the extra 150 GBP in...
You never know/ the old saying, "more $$$$ then brains" I had leading bid on a AV 1/12 Daric from Karia/ catalogue value in EF 2400US. I had proxybid 3200/ highest bid was 800. When auction (Morten & Eden) started, I was still leading by 2400E. When coin came up/ crazy bidding took price to 2600/ then countdown. With 1 sec. bid came in at 2800/ then 3000/ by the time it was finally sold at 12K!!!!!!!!!
I think that another reason that the Ayyubid gold dinar of Saladin has gone so much over the estimate is that if you look at what is on offer at the auction (https://auctions.thecoincabinet.com/auctions/4-CN6C48/ancients-auction-7-20-bp?limit=96), you will see that a fan of Islamic gold coins has literally nothing else to bid on, and there are overall only a few interesting gold coins at the auction.
I have found a few interesting gold coins at the current Leu Numismatik auction, so I have decided to register on their website, hopefully they will approve my application to bid before the auction ends...
They already approved my application a couple of hours ago, and gave me a spending limit that is over 3 times bigger than the one I asked for! These are the two coins I have put in bids for so far: https://leunumismatik.com/en/lot/49/3141/[49] https://leunumismatik.com/en/lot/49/3042/[49]
I would wait for better quality ones/ these appear a lot in auctions. The 1/8 1/16 Dinars are all RRRR Quarter Dinars not so much/ both these are from Baldwins/ NY Sale/ got both for under $700 (both) they re perfect MS
Nice coins, but I am looking specifically for the Emirate of Sicily ones, and the Fatimid one I have bid on is MS compared to the vast majority of the ones I have come across since I started searching for them.
One Italian auction had five different rulers/ all 5 were graded spl/fdc. I was working/ my proxy bids were outbid by one incredement (50euros)
