I support the idea, even though I live in the U.S. I have a lot of aussie currency thanks to a friend to send them to me.
I like the idea of a popular non-political personality having their portrait on a note. That said, really? Steve Irwin?
A strong argument can be made that he connected Australia to the rest of the world to a greater degree than any other Australian citizen, ever. He was offered a state funeral, and his Memorial Service was broadcast live to an audience estimated at 300 million.
A great idea however putting celebrities and personalities on currency probably not the best idea can you imagine putting Maralyn Monroe on the $20...LOL
As an MPC collector, obviously Marilyn was on the Series 611 $10: At least the vignette looks a lot like her and the note is referred to as "The Marilyn"
Depicting famous people, not just former heads of state, on banknotes is pretty common outside the US. As for actors, in Sweden you can have Greta Garbo in your pocket as from 3 October. So why not Marilyn Monroe? Now Irwin ... cannot really tell what time I would find "appropriate" between somebody's death and being depicted on money, but ten years, that seems to be short. Christian
Yeah, I think a few years even decades are a good thing to let the dust settle. That way if God forbid there are any scandalous behaviours that were unknown that can get taken care of. Not a guarantee as Andrew Jackson appearing still on the $20 despite all the negative history he has. And I like the idea of a Greta Garbo and a Jane Austen note(England, 2017). Jane Austen is one of my favourite 19th century authors.
I think we are talking about two different things here but that is one of my Favorite MPC just picked that one up as a matter of fact heres a couple of pics
Heres another one have had this for several years its for sure on the rare side and this grade is top at the registry
