Back in the late 1970's I sprung for a brand new Allstate display case. It was a lot of money for me back then along with coin trays and other show related expenses. Nice to have to set up at local and regional shows for sure. Years later I sold the case as I didn't have space or need for it. I've kicked myself for that decision ever since. I've done a few setups here and there over the years but used a couple of wood and plexiglass cases I built instead of buying another Allstate. This past weekend while perusing FB marketplace I spied a case identical to the one I had. It was obviously used, the lock no longer had a key and someone apparently spilled a drink on it along the way. The price was still incredible and it was only an hour away. I got it today, cleaned it up and put in a new lock. The glass is clean, the seals renewed and the aluminum brushed and shiny. Basically a new case ready to roll for future shows and such! I know I'm probably way more excited about this than I should be but I guess it harkens back to a simpler, fun time in my life. Just having that case now makes me feel more complete if nothing else. There's always deals out there if you just look. Sometimes they come with extra benefits.
I bought 3 refurbished ones at an antique show and flea market years ago for $50 ea. They've served me very well
Bought mine new from a dealer in Roanoke mid seventies. $50 each. Also bought 7 or 8 wheatie bags from him. Couldn't fit everything into my VW so I took my moms car. Still have the cases. Not sure about the keys.
I bought my first guitar overseas in 1977. It was a Johnny Pro model. Talk about top of the line… Ha!! Sold it immediately once I came stateside for a Now some forty-odd years later I actually found that old beater on a luthiers website. I immediately bought it and set it up in the corner of my office. It’s like Looking at an old friend every day. I totally get it.
