Hi all, So... this may have been done before but... I searched and didn't find a thread. Anyway, it's probably just me but this coin of Maximinus II has always looked like David Duchovny to me (X-files guy!). I have a self-chuckle every time I look at it. Not a great coin but when it looks like X-files guy... you have to buy it. Do you have any coins that remind you of well known figures? Josh Maximinus II. AE Follis, 310-312 AD. IMP MAXIMINVS P AVG, laureate, cuirassed bust right. GENIO-POP ROM, Genius standing left, turret on head, loins draped, holding patera and cornucopiae. Star in right field. Mintmark PLN. RIC VI London 211
That does look a lot like Duchovny! This is the thread you're looking for... it's a classic! https://www.cointalk.com/threads/just-for-fun-totally-looks-like-thread.238718/
Did someone call me out there ? Q PS : I swear I don't look like that at all ! (my clothes aren't that ridiculous) !
Crooked !!! @TIF : this is an obviously tooled picture of myself, in two words, a blattant fake. Excellent indeed. I sincerely hope you will not make actual T-shirts out of this fabric though Q
I was going to pair this with Kim Kardashian's infamous butt-shot, but I feared that may have been too much for the moderators... Kingdom of Bactria Menander I r. c. 165/55-130 B.C. AR Drachm, 15.71mm x 2.5 grams Obv.: ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΣΩΤΗΡΟΣ / ΜΕΝΑΝΔΡΟΥ. Diademed bust of the sovereign right, coat fastened on the right shoulder Rev.: (Maharajasa tratarasa / Menamdrasa). Athena Alkidemos standing left. Monogram 'H' in right field Ref.: Bopearachi, Ménandre (I) Sôter, 67
I made it late on Sunday as people were packing up (tried to go Saturday, but had an ill wife to tend to). I managed to pick up a couple of medieval coins, but haven't gotten around to photographing them. You?
I actually went in early on Friday and spent some time. Got that Agrippa/Augustus Nemausus Croc from Bob Hurst, and some low cost Empresses to start filling slots from non-ancient Dealers. Couple Ancient regulars had booths but were not there since I was early. Bummer, but good for the pocketbook! Did look hard at a REALLY great RR, but $$$$ was a tad out of bounds right now... Interested in seeing your Medievals.
Yea, there were other coins for hefty $$s I had an eye on, but I've been needing to behave myself lately... I'll see if I can't get a couple photos soon
Well, this denarius always reminds me of the characters/aliens in that 'Star Trek-The next Generation' movie trying to 'remove' the planet's inhabitants (can't recall the title) with F. Murray Abraham etc......undergoing all those 'facelift scenes
Hey @Mikey Zee : I really like that RR Denarius. Which one is it? AND, What is the device on the Helmet just above the visor? Is it a tightening screw to affix the visor? I keep thinking it is an ancient bail-cast fishing reel... ready for use after the day's Legionary march...
