To me the price tag is amazing so I'm just sharing. Pricey but beautiful Medal made by Robert Lovett! Plenty of provenance but way outta my league! Anyone here own a Lovett Token or Medal, I own only one, thought I sent it in to be graded but either way, I recently moved so it's lost for now but here's a pic. And mine isn't George Lovett as his Tokens are way too pricey, beautiful designs though! If you have a Lovett Token or Medal, feel free to post a pic! The ebay Medal is in the Lovett link below 4th medal from the top, sorry but I'm having computer trouble posting pics. That's part of the reason I haven't posted for awhile, I can post older pics but not current ones. Anyways, here's a old pic of the Robert Lovett Token I bought years ago. https://www.ebay.com/itm/166583227304?hash=item26c92253a8:g:fVEAAOSwkCxlwEWO https://rlovettjr.blogspot.com/p/miscellaneous-historical-medals.html
I think I have a couple of other Robert Lovette items, but here's the one I can get at easily. Here is the Marshall House token.
Nice looking Marshall House token, this is the first time I've heard of it! The Stephen Girard is a very popular one for sure!
The Marshall House token goes with the story of Elmer Ellsworth. He was clerk in Lincoln's law firm, and was the first Union officer to die during the Civil War. The story was Lincoln say a big Confederate flag flying over the Marshall House Hotel which was in Alexandria, Virginia. Ellsworth lead a group of soldiers over to take down. He ran up the stairs, ripped it down from the flag poll on the roof and was headed down the stairs with it. Southern supporter, James Jackson, met him on the stairs with a double barrelled shotgun, and killed Ellsworth using both barrels. Corporal Francis Brownell, killed Jackson making him and instant hero. Here some pictures and other collectables. Here is a ferrotype of Ellsworth and Brownell. Here is picture of the Marshall House Hotel. This is what's left of the Confederate flag today.
Great historical note @johnmilton, appreciated! This token from George Lovett is my favorite, not mine as I don't own one yet, feebay prices are insane!
Here is one more classic Robert Lovett piece, the 1860 business card. This piece features the "French liberty cap" design which appeared on the Confederate cent.
