One of the stops on our amazing honeymoon in Central Europe was a small Bohemian town of Cesky Krumlov in Czech Republic. Situated on Vltava river, it's a picturesque town that turned out to be a hidden gem. We enjoyed walking around the castle, chatting with the locals and canoeing down the river through the city.

While going through the castle, I was surprised to find a small mint. Apparently a number of the ruling families minted coins at different times in castle's history.

Here's some info from the tour:

Below are some images of the displayed coins and dies, as well as the machinery shown in the room.

Great report, and some really nice photos - thank you! Hope that the other person involved in the honeymoon trip found the mint related exhibits to be interesting too. ;)

Fascinating, and great pictures! Did you have to take them through glass, or were the mint-museum staff accommodating in letting you get up-close?

    Thanks, everyone.

Christian, my wife doesn't get as excited as me when it comes to coins, but I think she enjoyed the history as well. Plus eery excursion always followed by lots of wine ;)

ffrickery, all the display cases were behind glass, but it was decently clean. Thinking back, I don't think I even saw any staff at the museum.

very cool! so with that last pic, is that die that would be hammered instead of milled?

Cesky Krumlov is a fantastic place! I have wonderful memories from my visits there. I didn't see the mint though. That would be a good reason to go back :)

Facinating! Sounds like the perfect honeymoon, and even if you spouse isn't exactly thrilled with coins, it sounds like there is common ground and tolerance, perfect! Congratulations!
