Hopefully not, 10 years ago it was estimated to be worth between 70000 USD and 100000 USD.

This coin (unique) weigh 70g./ 58mm. its in Paris museum. Napoleon III paid fortune for it. Tens years ago it would have been millions. Maybe in 1850 it would fetch 60-100K. Maybe you saw a replica?

Yes/ that is a ONE Stater 8.35 g. My coin is the 20 Stater/ 175G. 58mm. ONLY one struck/ resides in Paris museum since 1850s. The Staters are $$$ but availiable. The AV 20 Stater is largest ancient gold coin/ unless there were AV 100 Aurei in Arras Hoard as rumoured. 100 Aurei would be 100X6g, =600g.
    100 D were 350g.
    1000Mohur 11g. x1000= 11000g!!!!!!

Yes, but lets be realistic, the French will never put that coin up for sale, so even if I won the jackpot at the Eurojackpot lottery and you won the jackpot at the Lotto Max lottery, we would never get the chance to buy it, but with the smaller staters, we can at least daydream about buying one of them...

Very true. Some of Diodotus I/ II AV Staters can be had for under 10K in MS quality. I really like the "Star" "Moon" shaped Dukaten of Transylvania. This is a AV Double Dukat 79d06d247e1249092232e71cdd16b343 (1).jpg

Where have you seen this? I have only seen 2 being auctioned recently and both were in bad condition.

Künker had a "Star" AV 3 Dukaten/ and a "Moon" AV 2 Dukaten in past auctions. Transylvania under Michal Apafi issued amazing coins. There were 2 diff. AV 100 Dukaten/ many odd shaped ones. Almost like they were special strikes for collectors.

OK/ these appear lots/ esp. Diodotus I types. Goldberg had a perfect MS/ no test mark/ I bid 4KUS lost it by one extra bid at $4200:(
Roma Auctions has these regulary/ same as Rauch/ Spink/ Heritage/ Stacks.....
My pain in the butt coins are those beautifull Bulgarian AV 4 Dukaten 1926 Boris III 1917 Ferdinand I types. SAdly most have holes repaired:yuck: Really wish to know what idiots would destroy such pretty coins.....

Speaking of Bulgaria, did the Bulgarian Empire ever mint gold coins?
