I have a few pennies and also some nickels that have a separation of the rim/edge as seen in this penny, to the right of the date. Are they worth anything, and what are they properly called.
The first question you should ask is.. What are they properly called? Then you ask are they worth anything? That is considered a Misaligned Die Strike. It is a very common issue on many coins especially Dimes and many Cents from the early 1970's. They really don't have any kind of premium.
I am not sure we are talking about the same thing. I understand when a coin is mis-aligned and maybe this is a bad example because I can see that it is a little mis-aligned ....... but I am talking about the rim being broken at the edge near the date. I have seen other coins that appear to be striken perfectly in the center of the coin with this condition.
