The current Legend internet auction (closes tomorrow) has several unopened GSA boxes up for bid. Each contains one Morgan ... mint is almost certainly CC, dates and condition are unknown. Odds that they are MS CC's, 1882-1884, are pretty high. Anyone ever bought one of these? If so, what was in it? Dates and mints could probably be determined using a research CT x-ray scanner without opening the boxes. This technique has been used by archaeologists to examine encrusted coins and other artifacts. Wonder if they have already been cherry-picked that way?

Do you feel lucky, punk? Not this punk, no way! :)

Nobody's going to CT the box when it's way easier to carefully open and reseal it.

Given that the GAO or GSA or whatever office actually mailed these out printed on the outer box the coin contained inside, and given that the years were sorted by the color of the inner box, I wouldn't bother with "unopened" GSA boxes unless they were selling for a 10% premium above MS63 or less.

Honestly. There's a very slim chance of anything other than 82-84.

This is an old game where the winner ends up the looser!

Well, from what I recall, 1883/1884 came in one box color and 1881/1882 came in another box color and the high premium ones came in a third box color.

I find it hard to believe that one of those boxes remained unopened for more than 40 years.

What's gonna be strange is how fast they sell them. People will fight each other to buy the dang things !
