I Just ordered my Gold standing liberty coin from the USMint. I was told that I could only order one coin per household. I went on line to see what was going on and to my surprise there are numerous sellers that are selling these coins already slabbed. How do the get so many to sell and how do they get them before the general public? It is beyond me why some people are even bidding on these coins when they can still get them at cost from the USMint. Dave
Well yes - I don't understand why the public can still buy them for actual cost - but on Ebay they are asking up to 700! Shill bidders to sucker people in that don't know otherwise?
I guess they can put them side by side with their gold dimes they are STILL trying to sell!! http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...y+dimes.TRS1&_nkw=Gold+mercury+dimes&_sacat=0
Some are pre-sales as I think is requires to state by E-Bay rules if you don't have the coin in hand. But, I see where some sales are being made, indicating they have the coins. Is this possible for dealers to obtain the coin and have them graded in just a couple of days?
Yes Marcus, I know that the dimes were eventually a bust, but I am a quarter man and I couldn't resist the coin even when there will be 100,000. coins minted. Dave
What does Ebay care as they are making money - it's all about the money!! I want to say BLAH,BLAH but just so Jim don't send me on vacay I won't say NUTING!!!
Well go for it - only 43,000 sold on the first DAY, as the merc dimes were so selled out in the first hour!! PLUS - your 1/4 oz Gold quarter has a measly amount of gold in it - meaning you are paying over 2000 dollars for an ounce of gold - If you like it expect a loss in your investment!!
I've seen sales as well, but the estimated delivery dates (to the buyers) are in October and November.
For me Marcus , it is not an investment per say. Like I said I am a quarter man. I am a collector of coins that appeal to me.
Yes - I give you credit to collect what appeals to you - I spent muchu denero on ancient coins that I love just looking at!
Yes...see the Kennedy Gold Coin fiasco of 2014... For these gold SLQs, I believe you could not buy them at a coin show. One could opt for the express shipping and get the coin quicker. However, most eBay sellers are just using the US Mint photo. The graded coins are also pre-sales and sellers are either photo-shopping the coin into a holder or using example photos provided by the grading companies.
To me it could have been a sell out if Not have been with the US Mint limited to 1. To me it is pretty stupid for the Mint if they think it will be a sell out quick. Also the Mint should not be here to please everyone. So they should have put a limit to 5 and then might be a sellout. But now it will take weeks before them coin to be sell out. The US Mint should put out less products and with limit to them to make that big bucks, but so far the US Mint starting to look like the Canadian Mint. Too many products out there and sitting with not much sale.
It generally makes more sense to just buy a 70 if that is what someone wants especially when they can only order one easily. It can be yes. Their orders when they have millions of coins graded a year aren't going to sit behind everyone else's who only submit every now and then. This one may not sell out at all. Under half sold the first day which is generally pretty good but a far cry from how the dime did. If the weekly sales are under 70k and the secondary sales are slowing it won't look good for a true sellout
OMG!!! OMG!!! ONLY 43K at $485 a piece!!??! Who CARES!? Why are there so many people on this site looking to disparage these? Nobody told anybody these were a great investment! If you don't like them sit on the side lines and STFU. So many of you think you're so GD smart and want to jump up and down with excitement because they didn't sell out in a day. Why do you even care? Is this the first time a gold mint offering didn't sell out in a day? Oh yay! The mint failed at something, I guess...??? Or could it be that the economy just sucks that bad? Some of you need to take a long walk off a short pier. Mods can do whatever you want to me for this. If I wanted to hear this much animosity and bit&hing I'd go back to work. Every thread on this has people going ape about how bad the coin is while the people who like it *AND WERE ABLE TO BUY ONE* get drowned out. It sounds like a lot of sour grapes to me. May be time to start looking for a new forum. Not impressed with the teenagers hanging out here trying to sound important.
