HI everybody!! I started today realizing it's a day of reflecting what happened 15 years ago today. My heart goes out to the people and families who lost loved ones in this tragedy. I truly hope no one ever forgets what happened 15 years ago. It needs to be remembered just like another tragic date Dec. 7th 1941. So above everything today take time today to reflect & pay honor to those who lost their lives on 9/11. Yesterday I shared a coin I picked up on FAC. Today I wanted to share another coin from the same seller. I haven't had time to do much needed research on this one. It spoke to me said "give me a home". I actually spent a couple of dollars more than I planned. I noticed the listing in the auction on its 1st day put in my bid. The last hour or so before the hammer fell some lady (I'm assuming a she by the username) outbid me. So if I wanted to give this guy a home I had to up the anty a little bit. But it was still a very inexpensive buy. According to RIC & Milne it's R1. I have to admit I'm not well educated in this type. So any input or knowledge you can share will be appreciated. Kolophon of Iona AE 15mm, 1.97g., 330-285 BC Obv.: Apollo head three quarters facing. Rev.: Iyre, Palm Right Milne 1445 rare I accidentally uploaded seller pics replaced them with mine. I had fun trying to photograph this one. When I saw the seller pics I knew it would be difficult. The patina is green/brown. In hand he's quite nice. Any knowledge shared on this guy & others this type would be appreciated. As always share anything you want. I enjoy seeing & learning from what you all post.
The green is REALLY cool, especially in the eyes! Congrats on this Rare piece. It looks great, and I would enjoy this in my collection had I had the chance. Well done!
I only have this tiny guy, and I need to reshoot it for the 20th time! Iona Kolophon AR Tetartemorion 530-520 BCE Archaic Apollo Incuse Punch 0.15g, 4.5mm
Thanks! The green patina makes the coin, I think. It's what drew me towards it. I originally accidentally downloaded the seller pics but went back & put mine in. Probably the best pics I've taken of a coin. I saw an Archaic Apollo very similar to yours but not the same, recently on FAC
Hey Smojo, Can't help you any on your coin because I am not into ancients. To show you what I mean, the closes I could come to identifying one of these old coins would be like Alegandron's coin which looks to me like the Mars face photo posted some years ago on NASA. Dave
Yeah I like these old timers. Although I don't really get to many moderns anymore I still like to troll over in your forums still. You know I do still have friends over there & more than willing to lend a hand to new comers into coin collecting. Collected those moderns for around 20-25 years or so. I like to think I learned something helpful to a newbie.
