Dear My 12 year old son received and old coin from his great grandmother. The coin is made out of silver (weight, feeling, non magnetic). How can we know the coin is, apart from the silver, worth anything? See pictures... Regards Steven.
Hello @Steven Verraes ! Welcome to CoinTalk also. Love JFK Silver.... Looks like about $16 in this condition. 1964 Kennedy Silver Half Dollar 90% Silver Coin Value Prices, Photos & Info (usacoinbook.com)
Hello Steven. Many a coin collector were born this way. I would value that piece as priceless myself. Take your son for a drive to the local coin shop and ask them for a “clear flip”. It’s a protective sleeve. The shop will likely give one to your son. That way he can admire his heirloom without fear of damaging it.
It’s value is around $15 based on the price of silver. This date is 90% silver so that’s good. However the value of how your son received the coin is much more than the content of the silver. Welcome to CT.
That's a special coin being given to him by his grandmother. He could become an avid collector and that one may always remain his very favorite. Welcome to Coin Talk!
