That question was for the op but I didn't pay attention to the dates. Looks like he haven't been around since 2009

  3. lol...no worries. It was that same post that led me to this forum and why I joined and when I started chatting, I didn't realize till later that it was a mega old comment as well. Let me know if you have any questions about coin rings and I'll be happy to answer. If it's about the purchase of them, just PM me. Thanks Whipps!

I became a collector when my new husband took me to a coin show and mostly left me on my own as he was busy with customers. While looking around one dealer inroduced me to "Love Tokens" and I bouht a small one an 1890 dime. Between customers, I let my husband tell me all about carved coins. I learned about Hobo nickels and altered coins too. Later, he surprised me with another Love token.

What I wanted to say in the beginning is these coins were worn in the first place and someone made them into a more interesting collectible.

  5. I think that's awesome. I'd be willing to bet we all have some cool story as to how we came to the coin collecting hobby, I doubt many of us just one day said I want to keep coins and I like that story of how you got here. Like me, it sounds like it came through the interest and appreciation of something else related.

  6. Hey Whipps, okay so I made the video you asked for on how I make coin rings but I'll pre-warn you, I had a difficult time breaking down 5 hours worth of work and explanation into a short summary so instead I broke it down to a three part series of 15-20 minutes each. Tomorrow I'll work on a shorter one but if you really want to see all the detail that goes into making a ring, here you go bud. I demonstrated on a 1919 Canadian Big Copper which turned out pretty nice. I'm curious if you guys prefer the Patina Aged look or Polished Copper Ring?

Here are the links on Making a Coin Ring Start to Finish.

What do you guys like more on this Canadian Copper. The Polished Copper or Patina Aged finish?

  8. Thanks Jim. I tend to lean to the Patina as well but everyone has their own preferance in a ring. I'll have to post some different styles as well later like this is a straight wall ring compared to a fat tire ring or swedish wrap style (all very nice).

Here is todays ring, a Bicentinial Half Dollar with slight curved ends, comfort polish sides and in Mirror Finish.
